Okay, I really need some help here! I've had horrible insomnia my whole life. I can't fall asleep, but once I do I typically sleep through the night. I've never been prescribed sleep meds, as I've always relied on benzos for sleep. I'm off those now, so there's not much I can do. I've tried my friend's Ambien, from 10mg to 30mg, with negligible effects. I know some people who can take 5mg and they're out like a light. Melatonin and Benedryl work, but only for so long. I'll just lay in bed, tossing and turning all night. It's 5:30 in the morning and I haven't slept a wink.

How about talking to your doctor about this situation, since it has been a big issue for so long?

I'm having the same issue. It's been 3 nights that I've slept for only an hour or so. I'm having fear when night comes.

I downloaded f.lux and swapped out my regular bulbs with red bulbs so the lights don't keep my own melatonin from being produced. (It's got something to do with white/blue wave length light hitting your retina and setting off a chain reaction). Also, a bit of sleep deprivation helps the next night to fall asleep quicker.

I never had insomnia problems until 7 months ago. It started about a month before a major depressive episode (they last months with me). I was also having major anxiety issues, so the doc gave me atavan - 3 mg a night..it turned me into a stoned insomniac! I tripped over furniture but still no sleep.

a couple of months ago, I went to a sleep doctor out of frustration and was diagnosed with BP2. He gave me quitiapine 100 mg, and I slept like a baby...it has since been uped to 300mg to address the hypomania, but my regular doc keeps putting me on the time release version Seroquil XR. As soon as he does, I stop sleeping. Now he has me on Seroquil XR 300 and 1 mg atavan..still no sleep and now panic attacks (~3 a night)

Like the BP2 didnt make me koo koo enough without the insomnia and panic attacks...

Hey, at least I'm up on all the Paid programming on the latest juicer.

I would tell your doc to consider all your meds and how they may be working together to keep you up.
