Boy, am I getting nervous. My boyfriend told me I won't be allowed to have my iPhone with me. :-( My iPhone is my security blanket. I literally sleep holding it. So I'm worried about that and sleeping in general. How do you sleep with all those wires attached to your head???

Why wont you be allowed to have your iphone with you?
they usually put the wires up in a ponytail with your hair, so it kind of feels like a pony tail, just a bit heavier and longer strains of hair.
I think after the first 10 minutes of having it on, i didn't feel any diffrence besides the weight from them, making my ponytail seeming full of heavier/thicker hair.

Have they not specified to stay awake during certain times prior to the testing? before my sleep study, they had me have approx 3 hours of sleep then i had to stay awake from 4am- the testing time, which was that following night.. and i was having troubles not sleeping even with being loaded up on caffiene and sugar and my stimulant med. by the time the sleep study came, i crashed. and the bed was soooo comfy!

I honestly don't know if he's right about the iPhone. We'll see!

They didn't say anything about my sleep the night before, or even napping. I usually nap in the afternoons, but I'm skipping today so I'll be nice and tired tonight. :-)

Good for you! How did the test go? I am needing to have one, but can never sleep a bit if I am anxious, and I would be if I knew people were watching. I fear that people would laugh at how hideous I might look!

Let me know too if you find our results. Good luck!

Thanks! It went so well. I didn't think I'd sleep at all with the wires all over my head, but I slept better than I have in over two years.

The study was in a really nice hotel, and the techs were in a different room. One came in during the night because one of the wires came loose. Other than that, I was totally unaware of the techs.

I wondered that as well, I was wired up like sphaghetti, I didn't think I would be able to sleep like that and in a strange place, but I did very well in fact.
Thanks for this!

And the fact that they didn't wake you up within the first 2 hours to stick a machine thing over your face is good news too! I was worried that sleep apnea might have been the reason for my extreme daytime fatigue. I can't imagine sleeping with that thing.

Yeah, that's good. Although sleep apnea would have explained why I don't sleep at night. Oh, well, back to the drawing board....

There are a lot of other sleep disorders actually that could explain it. Now if you go to a psychiatrist, they will probably lump it all into insomnia which you may have but research the drugs that they can give because you don't want to disrupt a healthy sleep architecture. Now if you have a healthy sleep architecture but are just not sleeping at the "correct" time, that's kind of a big risk to take just move your sleep time back.

But if you go to a neurologist, it could be found to also be delayed sleep phase (circadian disorder), narcolepsy, restless leg syndrome (which could be due to low iron), parasomonias (sleep walking/eating), idiopathic hypersomnia, disorders in the specific stages of sleep and much more. Most people are not aware of the vast number of sleep disorders.

One thing is that some of these are hereditary. I notice that my sleep patterns are very close to one of my parent's. And I've gone to multiple doctors to confirm my original diagnosis. It's also good to rule out other health problems like allergies - if allergies were the cause of poor sleep, your sleep study would show several microarrousals.

Good Luck!

I hardly slept at all for mine When they came in and put that CPAP machine on me, I freaked. I can't imagine wearing it every night. Since I hardly slept, they couldn't techically diagnose me with sleep apnea. However I know there are times i stop breathing at night because I will feel like I'm drowning and I have to force myself awake to take a breath. Probably need to try another sleep study as my first one was years ago. I'm just afraid I won't sleep again due to my chronic insomnia and I have a really hard time sleeping in a strange environment.
