Hello!
I'm afraid in the night. I just am. I also ruminate a lot about my past in the night, and I likely sleep around 03:00 in the morning almost every night. I'm in bed by 1:00 usually, and I absolutely must have a light in my room. The darkness frightens me, and I usually have a desk light on because a nightlight isn't bright enough. Sometime's I'm still up at 4:00-6:00 in the morning. I drink my tea, listen to some calming music, shut my eyes & try to be at peace. I dunno what else to do because I worry too much at night.

Yes, I could indeed go to bed earlier. That's for sure something I'm willing to try.
Issues I have: GAD, moderate depression, obsessive thoughts. I'm still trying to tackle my issues through therapy and medication, but I'd appreciate more sleep asap.

I have a psychiatrist, and I'll see him next week. Should I let him know my issues? This has gone on for about a month.

Thank you!

I would definitely let your psychiatrist know. It sounds like your anxiety/fear is getting in the way of your sleep.

I suffered from similar issues for couple of weeks during the past months. I was diagnosed with major depression disorder and suffer a bit from panic attacks. But usually they occur during the day, but for couple of nights, the minute I put my head on my pillow I get a semi panic attack and have to get up, turn on the lights, do deep breathing then go back and try to sleep. Couple of times I asked my mom to sleep with me in the same room (Im 27/male), so imagine the embarrassment I have to deal with hehe!
You should definitely tell your psychiatrist about these issues. Also, try to go to bed only when you're dead sleepy, this may help.
