Hi guys,

I'm coming off a sleep all day every day period and starting a never sleep ever period. I've tried sleep meds in the past and they usually work when I take them but their availability and next day drowsiness make me want to stay away. What has worked for you to either help sleep or help with sleepiness?

Hi Ellie, I experienced the same thing sometimes. In fact, there was once I slept for almost 40 hours. But for me, I hate to rely on meds because I can't cope with the aftereffect of it. Usually if I can't sleep until dawn, then I won't sleep at all or else my sleeping pattern will change entirely for few weeks. I'll have to wait until the whole day finished and give it another try. Our body will get exhausted eventually. I don't know if my method will work on you, but I hope you'll give it a try. And please, don't rely too much on sleeping meds, okay.

I sometimes take Holy Basil, it is a herb that helps with sleep. Though for me it makes me groggy the next day, though many don't have that effect.

This is a very basic answer.

Routine and melatonin. Make a point to get active during the day, and when it's time for sleep make it the same time every night, and take some melatonin. It's not as potent as sleeping pills, but it's what your body creates to put you to sleep anyways. The idea here is to force your body to get itself back into a natural day/night cycle. The being active will help increase serotonin for wakefulness during the day. The melatonin at night basically is doing what your body would be doing itself...manually.
