Sleep is such a fickle thing. Even with sleeping meds I still lay in bed for hours and try and try to fall asleep. Just once I wish that I could lay down and fall right to sleep. Sometimes I feel like my brain is a television that just keeps rapidly changingnchannels when I try to sleep. I just can't get my brain to shut down. It's always think about something. Something that happened that day, something that could happen. Worrying. I just want it to stop and go to bed.

Some days when I'm really tired I rest in bed. I can't nap, if I try my mind just wanders everywhere and I don't feel any better. So I listen to some podcast and just try to relax and focus on it. I'm not trying to fall asleep, just having my mind shut off and listen makes me feel more rested.
Have you tried listening to something in bed? Music has never helped at all for me, makes me more restless, tv tempts me to watch and flip channels. |

Your info says bipolar disorder. Are you on any medications aside from sleeping pills? What you're describing is typical for manic insomnia, as well as anxiety (which is comorbid to bipolar disorder).
If you aren't medicated, it might be time to try taking something. If you are, consider moving around what times you take your meds. Talk to your gp about it.

Anxiety causes the over worrying. Try turning down the anxiety when you hit the sack.

That's nearly impossible for someone diagnosed BPD, Bow. Not without medications...
