I originally posted this in Other Mental Health Discussion, I thought it would be a better fit here.
There may be triggering content**** I forgot to tag, I don't know how to fix it now.

I don't even typically dream... I don't know why this keeps happening to me. I've been having morbid nightmares that wake me up, I haven't had anything like this happen to me before. I'm going through some stressful times but nothing that explains the gory imagery in my dreams. They all involve the people I live with. They're kind of like my family. I watch terrible things happen to them. I don't know why.

I'm just concerned and losing the little sleep I get. Any insight is welcome though I didn't technically ask a question.

Have you spoken to a therapist about it? They could help, at least with finding the root of the nightmares and dealing with them.

I'm having my insurance switched over currently. I'm working on getting a therapist again for the first time in a year or two. I'll surely be mentioning it. I try not to leave anything out with therapy.

That's wonderful to hear! Hopefully, they can help with your sleep problems. And good luck with the insurance thing.

I think dreaming is quite normal but if you are having bad dreams more often then I guess, there's something wrong with your sleeping habits. As far as I know, people who suffer from chronic nightmares need to consult a medical advice.

I work nights now and I have kids living at my apartment so it's kind of impossible to get enough sleep. I suppose I should have included that in my original post huh

I remember having nightmarish dreams, vivid and disconcerting, as well. Dreams of vertigo, free falling and spinning in my dreams and waking up abruptly on the floor. Wait until you have dreams of when you're drinking and you wake up scarred that you may have had a relapse. You even feel a little hungover as well, which is odd in itself.

But It does pass and then you get to find out what you've really been missing out of sleep. When you wake up feeling refreshed, be thankful for another sober day. I'm four months sober and still have a restless mind, so I have a hard time falling asleep at times. But when I do it's awesome!

You should contact your doctor first. He will make analysis.

Can you find a doctor in your area? Or you might have to travel a bit farther to find a doctor.

My PCP is a nurse practitioner. I don't know. Maybe she can do something about it. Maybe I could give her a call today. I don't know. I'm having a really rough time thinking today

Dreams do tend to mirror your daytime thinking. Has your thinking become extremely unhealthy and unwholesome because of the stressful events in your life? What we often speak of as being "a nightmare" in real life simply refers to certain horrible events we have experienced. Perhaps your thoughts are too strongly focused on all that is so very horrible in your life just now. You might need to try adopting a much more positive and hopeful attitude.

Note that all the people in your dreams are aspects of your self, and represent the thoughts and ideas you have in your mind. In your dreams, these thoughts and ideas appear under attack. (terrible things happen to them) Do you often second guess yourself, being critical of the ideas you have. Because the people in the dream seem like family, the ideas that your mind is being so hard on would appear to be those that are also very central to your own sense of self (such as core beliefs and ideas that have served you well over time).

It is unfortunate that what goes on in a person's mind does have repercussions even upon their families and friends. How is your real family faring? The manner in which you are being hard on yourself (as shown by your dreams) is rather indirect with the effect being played out upon those around you. There is an explanation for all that happens.

I mostly don't think... my medication makes me numb. When I do think I have feelings of helplessness and I feel trapped in my life. I feel worthless. There is no positive attitude to have. Everyone in my life uses me and I work all the time and they keep me awake all day to do all the things around the house.

I don't talk to my "real family" and they don't talk to me. One of the perks of being transgender.

I'm sorry if I'm acting arrogant I just have been having a really hard time and I'm really angry about my situation right now. I don't know what to do. I think you're right. My nightmares probably stem from my attitude about my life. My nightmares are all about my best friends whom I feel forced to be a slave to.

I would check with your doctor, make sure there isn't a physical reason and then work on your current anxieties with a health care professional, see if you can lessen that stress: Adult Nightmares: Causes and Treatments

Ask your nurse practioner about Prazosin. It is a medication that is used to treat nightmares though nightmares typically associated with PTSD. It may help in your situation.
