Does this happen to anyone else? You go to bed, you start to nod off, then your body jerks awake, like when you're trying to not fall asleep, arms and legs flailing? I'm not trying to stay awake but for some reason my body is being told to wake myself back up every time I start to nod off.

I just started on a drug called Elavil, which is an antidepressant and nerve medication, it's supposed to help me sleep. My doctor switched me off of Remeron for it because she thought the Remeron was making me gain weight.

Anyone else had this expereince? Tonight my body jerked back awake so hard that I nearly kicked the dog and myself out of bed. The dog got out of bed after that and decided he couldn't sleep next to me. =(

I have experienced my muscles jerking when I am falling asleep. It think it has something to do with your muscles relaxing and your brain signaling them to tense up because something in your thoughts make you feel you should be awake or alert. I usually fall asleep afterward. Is it happening over and over to you?

Yes, Yzen, it happened at least 3 times last night.

Seesaw,
I have to wonder if the new drug might be causing the jerking. If it keeps happening, you should check with your doctor to see if it is a side-effect of the meds.
