Hey everyone,
I'm not sure if this is a sleep disorder or not, but all I know is that I have a great deal of trouble trying to fall asleep. I lay awake in bed for a few hours, unable to sleep and when I finally do get to sleep, it's often broken and unsatisfying. But, because I have trouble actually falling asleep at night, I sleep in until all hours of the day. It doesn't matter if I wake up at seven in the morning, that night I will not be able to sleep until 2 or 3, regardless of how early I actually go to bed. As I said, I don't know if this is a sleep disorder or not. All I know is always wake up tired, I feel lethargic and I can't fall asleep at night. Can anyone give any advice on this? I don't want to take sleeping tablets but I need to do something to change this because I feel constantly tired. Any help would be appreciated.

Common anxiety can disrupt your sleep. If your mind is racing then you can not fall asleep. Try quieting down you mind before going to bed. If you can't do this, then therapy may be needed.

Hello Aposiopesis: I presume you're following all of the recommended practices: getting enough exercise, avoiding caffeinated beverages, staying off of your computer, phone, tablet, etc. for at least 2 hours before bed, etc. Those sorts of recommendations, & more, are easily found on-line. I have read that it is possible to become so tired that it can affect one's ability to sleep. Perhaps that is what's happening to you.
![]() Another recommendation is generally that, if you can't fall asleep within 20 minutes (I think it is), get up & perhaps read a book or magazine, maybe listen to some soft soothing music. I've also read that drinking a cup of warm milk before going to bed can have a soothing effect. (I haven't used that one.) ![]() ![]() I sometimes have difficulty falling asleep, or getting back to sleep if I've woken up. What I sometimes do is to get up & do sort-of a walking meditation... sometimes for as much as an hour or two. ![]() ![]() |
