I dreamed I was exploring this old house with a couple of other fellows. We were all standing in this big dark room. It was pitch black inside, but there was a door open that led out to the hallway and a smattering of light was coming in that way. I didn't see anything, but I felt like there might have been a ghost in the room with us. I saw a shadow on the wall out in the hallway. The shadow was humanoid form, male, wearing a tricorne so I assumed it was either a Minuteman or a continental soldier. The spirit spoke. "Who goes there? Just I and my musket," it said. In a low, gravelly voice I replied to it,"Advance and Retreat,"

So you talk in your sleep? This was dreamt to wake you up after a tiring day. |

In the dream, your mind was contemplating a real life situation, you are dealing with. The spirit was a part of yourself.

I've never heard myself, but have been told I do sometimes. I have a tendency to mumble.

Could be. I have been preoccupied with things lately. The dark room could be symbolic of me not being able to see a solution. The hallway could also be "shedding light" on the situation.

Advance and retreat...sounds conflicting.
Do you have something you can relate this to irl? We all have conflict...but maybe something recent? |

I have been studying dreams for a long time. The subconscious often uses an obscure, puzzling, or contradictory phraze or word/number at or near the end of a dream not to "mean" or "symbolise" something but simply for a strong waking element. Anything strange or puzzling engages the brain and helps the waking process |

Yes,sort of. There was a situation where I should have spoken up instead of keeping things to myself and I missed out on an opportunity as a result.

Heya Gojamadar
I sometimes have a string of outlandishly strange dreams, only to be woken up by my alarm. Why do some strange dreams wake you while others, equally strange, do not? |

Dreams that we remember always happen near the waking level. Do not understimate your subconscious! It knows when the alarm is going to go off and "primes" your brain ready for the allarm. Sometimes when I went to sleep very tired the alarm was incorporated into my dream as the phone ringinging. I answered it put the phone down and went back to sleep. This happened many times as I used to work unsocial hours. Another point is that dreams do not always happen in real time, but sometime very quickly. It is probable that some of your "strange" dreams happen when the allarm starts and brings your level of consciousness to waking before the allarm stops. Dreaming is a fascinating subject! |
