For most people, going to sleep is a pleasant escape from one’s mind while awake – not for me.

On most nights, I have a really exhausting time of trying to fall asleep. I could lay there for a good hour or more before I eventually fall asleep. Then, once I do fall asleep I will have quite possibly the weirdest dreams. Each one plays out like a film – I’ll wake up, go back to sleep and the weirdness continues from where it “paused” before I awoke.

At times, they’re extremely vivid and are so good that I’ve got to jot down what I can remember because it might be a good book. Other times, they’re just completely off the wall and strange. I always wake up feeling emotional or bewildered from my dreams and a few times I’ve had to miss out on work or social events because I’ve been so dragged down by those dreams.

This has gone on for as far as I can remember and it’s quite frustrating that I cannot fall asleep and once I do, not even then does my mind give me rest.

Is there a disorder that I could attribute to this? I don’t know what is going on – maybe it’s a symptom of an actual mental illness that has gone undiagnosed?

Honestly, I’d really just like to fall asleep, rest peacefully, and feel good when I wake up.

Whatever your problem is, do not blame your dreams for it. The subconscious creates the dreams to respond to some problems during sleep.

The question is what are you thinking of while you'retrying to go to sleep?
My guess is that something is going on in your life (social, family or work) that causes you problems. It is possible that you disregard or ignore that preys on your mind.
You describe your dreams as strange and sometimes entertaining.
Dreams are created by your subconscious to do certain tasks during sleep. It seems that your dreams are created by your own subconscious to divert you from the problemss you have in your life and to give you some sleep time so you can have some rest. So most of your dreams are created to preserve your sleep. The last part of every dream is the final waking element; when it is time to wake up your subconscious puts in something that gets your brain workink! This part can be very puzzling or emotional.
Sometimes the mood of the waking dream linger for hours or even days after waking.

In dreams you mind is processing things. Look to things in real life that might be causing those feelings. Anxiety also plays a part.

There's nothing going on in my life. Finances, job, family, school is great. Everything is going well. This has gone on since teenagehood.

It's just bizarre because I can't understand why it's occurring. It's so frustrating.

Hey KDi194 although i dont know whats causing your inability to sleep or how to fix it, i just wanted to say that i understand what your going through as i also suffer to sleep most of the time and my case is very similar to yours except my dreams dont continue like yours do mine are just odd and mostly not about myself. if it really bothers you to such an extent maybe you ought to try getting a sleep study done? I hope you solve your issues.
