Dream about a shapeshifter

I dreamt I was on a ship, which was being attacked by an enormous shark. We managed to fight it off, and I killed its young. I painted the deck with some sort of special paint so that nothing could try and crush the ship, which seemed to work. But the shark came back as a man, and said he couldn't be killed, and would always come back. He had to rule. He was like a king in black on a palanquin.

I wasn't scared, but when I woke, I did find it all bizarre. What could it all mean?

Maybe he is the constant of eternal struggle for life in the universe? Many people see the universe that way. Though I like to imagine the ideal world of advanced technology that erases all need for strife and conflict.
I had a dream that I interpreted in the similar way but opposite of yours. It was a long dream and the end was about crocodiles loosing their teeth.
