This was a few years ago. It popped up as a Facebook memory and reminded me. I think it's fascinating.
I had the weirdest dream.
I was driving a black pickup truck, like Marty McFly's from the Back to the Future movies. It malfunctioned. I stepped outside to see what the problem was, and it took off without me. I reported this to the proper authorities, and they reacted, "No, that can't be right. It's a good truck. It wouldn't malfunction. She must be crazy."
So they locked me up pending a ruling.
Then when a guy came in saying he'd just seen a truck going by without a driver, they did the same thing to him.
Even after the truck turned up, and they had solid proof that it happened, they didn't release us. They had to go through the entire evaluation process, which can take 72 hours not counting weekends. So we were bedded down for the night in this room full of bunk beds. Then something went wrong with the security system, and everything was chaos.
Meanwhile, I simply tried the front door, found it unlocked, walked out.
Hubby's question: Could this dream mean you finally realize you're free?
We decided the comparison is to that "identified patient" game that comes up in dysfunctional families. I report a problem, and instantly *I* must be the problem. It can't be them. It has to be me. Other people that support my views, well then, something must be wrong with them too. Even after they have solid proof, and they see it for themselves, they don't believe what they're seeing. They explain it away, and stick like glue to the explanation that something must be wrong with me and my supporters.
But I don't have to stay in that environment, do I? There is no real barrier holding me inside, and I walked out of there free.
