It often happens to me to have dreams where i know im sleeping and i want to wake up but i cant. and i try with all myself to wake up but for some reason i cant.

so i try to scream (to wake myself up or so that maybe someone would come to me and help me waking up for real) but 1) no sounds come out or 2) i moan (and hear myself moaning with my real body) and i keep dreaming im waking up but then realize in reality im still asleep.
And it happens multiple times in a row (me trying to wake up in the same dream) until i finally do actually wake up.

Usually these dreams are very disturbing, scary, distressing and anguishing.

Anyone else have these kind of dreams? what could they mean to you?

Hey sinking! I have had one of those before, it was rather recent.

I was having a bad dream, then I woke up (in another dream) and wanted to stay in bed VERY badly (which is unusual because I am usually a morning person). So I get out of bed, open my door, and get murdered. That is where the Dream ended and all I could think about was how it seemed like it was telling me I was supposed to wait.

Do you think that these repeated “waking up to sleep” dreams could be a sign to wait, since the Dream is trying to keep you “asleep”?

Hope you find what you’re looking for!

Heya Sinking,

This happens to me regularly when I am overworked, or very anxious/stressed. I'm no sleep interpreter, it's not even a legitimate profession, but as a knowledgeable person in the field of the mind, I believe that it is the mind's way of attempting to eliminate stress and anxieties during sleep, or a protective mechanism, allowing you to perceive the extent of the impact certain life events are having on your conscious/awake mind, no matter how hard you attempt to push the thoughts away, or ride the wave of thoughts about such things during the daytime.

I find that when I am happy, settled, and not stressed, this does not occur. Those dreams can be very realistic and very very scary. I experience them too

I like to keep a dream journal for those really interesting/awesome/horrifying dreams I want to remember, do you think this would be useful to you?
Thanks for this!

I half way woke up one time walking down the hallway. I was so freaked out because I really couldn’t tell if I was awake or dreaming. I had to pinch myself really hard. I think a combination of getting rid of my old bed, and getting Into a good sleep pattern has worked. I haven’t even had any bad dreams let alone anything else. For a couple weeks.

Except there was a small sleep eating incident last week.

Sounds awesome, wouldn't want to re-read the entries every day though!!

I have these types of dreams fairly often. "waking up" multiple times in one dream. Ever since I was a child. For me it helps to try and blink my eyes as hard as I can in the dream, it usually wakes me up for real.
I am not sure of the meaning or cause.

I try hard to move because I know I'm still in bed. I struggle to move until I completely awake. I have recurring dreams and i can recognise it is of the recurring type throughout the iteration of the dream itself. The dream is always the same - however - over many years I have so much insight about the set of recurring dreams that I seem to be partially awake during them, trying to stop them, etc. because I already know what shall transpire next.

It suggests to me that it is trauma and stress related. When I take my small dose sedative antidepressant I get a good sleep, no dreams at all.
