Can this happen? I’ve been so tired lately and I have an appointment with a sleep specialist for possible narcolepsy. I’ve been yawning constantly for months now. Today at the vets office of all places, my jaw locked open. I freaked but I was able to get it unstuck. Now my jaw just feels all weird. I also increased my lamictal on Tuesday so I’m wondering if this is a side effect. But should I be concerned about this?

MD, How are you feeling today? How long was your jaw like that? That would scare me too! In my opinion though, if your jaw is back to normal, you're fine, and just bring it up to your doc as a concern. I really don't know what that is, because I'm not a doctor, but I hope you feel better soon.

It was just stuck for maybe 5 seconds. It seemed longer. I feel better but I’ve noticed I do all these involuntary things like yawning, making weird faces, nodding, coughing, sighing. I can’t tell if this is from long term psych med use or what . It never really bugged me and I never really noticed how often they happen until my jaw locked.

I used to yawn all the time when I was on Zoloft, it was really weird feeling when I did it too. But as for involuntary movements of the face, that can be related to long term antipsychotic use

That's interesting. I've always been curious about locked jaw. I crack my jaw and stretch it all day long but never experienced my jaw locking. I'm more worried about my jaw breaking or my teeth cracking or breaking (although I think the latter is more paranoia).
Sorry, I don't have much to add to your situation. What did it feel like? |

It felt like a cramp. My fingers lock close sometimes when I’m turning stuff at work and this felt the same way where it cramped up first and then got stuck. I wonder if some form of arthritis might also be possible.
