That’s horrible, I’m so sorry you experienced that dream.
How are you feeling now? I hate having such stressful horrible dreams. It leaves me with this inner feeling of… dread? Or something! |

Happily
![]() -------------------------------------------- Starting out in the water -- Water is often symbolic of extreme emotions. Typically sadness/depression. You said "deep water, trying to stay afloat". This sounds like on the verge of drowning. --> How has your emotional mood been lately? Have you been feeling overwhelmed? Or more depressed than normal? Next enter the male cop
Possible trigger:
First, cops are a character representative of authority, regardless of whether you back the blue or stand with the a.c.a.b. movement. Added to this is the fact this particular cop is male, I'm going to presume that outside of the circumstances of the dream cops and men are both a trigger of violence and real danger in your perspective. ((Please feel free to point out where I'm wrong here too. This is your dream, not mine, after all.)) So, the character of a male cop, some authority figure posing as a very real threat. --> Does the cop resemble anyone you know? Or were they identified as such even if they held no actual similarities to that person? If yes, the identifier here is, what about that person do you see in yourself, or how does that person have influence over your life? The point of the above question is to acknowledge that all characters in a dream, are essentially extensions of the dreamer. So what the character represents is essentially something you see within yourself. If the cop resembles someone you know, then I would say the follow up is what do you see having in common with them, and how do they influence your life and decisions? However, if the character is completely unknown to you, then what should be asked is what part of yourself are you seeing as being in that place of authority, and have you put yourself in a place of feeling like you are the aggressor in that instance?
Possible trigger:
Under the water. Drowning in emotions. The cop is essentially tied to the emotions connected to the water. And sex is never actually about sex. ((Unless it's a flashback, like from a past trauma. If so, then there's a whole different conversation to be had. So, ask first if the scenario is a repetition of a past assault, if there is one to be had. You don't need to answer this out loud, just consider it for yourself.)) When not connected to a past real life memory, sex is typically a matter of empathic connection. Sex is portrayed as an act of the deepest connection between lovers. In dreams this translates to just deep connection with another part of your Self. Here, however, we're seeing it forced. Are you being put in a position of authority where you are seeing this part of you that you despise? Or is dealing with the person the character resembles bringing out a part of you that you see as harmful or dangerous? Then the dream moves on to land. You're no longer drowning in the emotions, but are bringing this danger to others to see. However, everyone trusts the cop and not you... There are a number of ways the mistrust can be interpreted. It could be a matter of you seeing the worst in yourself, but others are ignorant to it because they can't see your inner thoughts. Or it could be a matter of you being overly self-judgmental. Or it could be that you see the influence of this other person/bad you causing others to not trust you despite the hurt you're being put through. ... And again, all characters are parts of you, so this also brings into question self doubt. Does facing this darker side of you cause you to doubt your own trustworthiness?
