I read a study which said anxiety and insomnia each increase the risk of suicide by 5%. (10% overall). I was shocked. I didn't know you could have depression without anxiety and insomnia. Why would anyone kill themselves if they weren't suffering anxiety and insomnia?. If you have depression without anxiety and insomnia, what exactly are you suffering from? LOL. Anxiety is bad enough, but if you don't get restorative sleep, you are going to hell in a hand basket. As for side effects of Amitirptyline, there is cotton mouth, blurry vision, and potential cardiac issues. After 52 days of sleeplessness, I would have given an arm and a leg for a good nights sleep. I found that 75mg was enough to open the sleep window and once re-habituated to falling asleep, I was able to discontinue the medication. And now, my sleep cycle is a mess and I couldn't care less.
I often take a 2 hour nap in the afternoon and get up at 2:30 am. I'll make a nice breakfast, watch some sport highlights on youtube, drink a pot of coffee, and go right back to sleep till 8 or 9 am. The reason I don't care what time I get up is that I simply love falling back to sleep. Being able to fall asleep is one of life's under recognized blessings.

Oh totally. People who have never had insomnia take falling asleep for granted and do not recognize what a blessing it is.

I can also drink coffee and go straight back to sleep
