Anybody take Seroquel just for sleep? Do you get a good nights sleep and have you noticed any weight gain or an uptick in glucose since you've been on it? I'm thinking of switching from Ambien Cr as it seems to have stopped working for me and would love to hear other's experience with Seroquel.

Thanks.

I used to be on 75mg of seroquel, when first being put on it at the hospital they didn't even wake me up when coming in for blood work and IV's, it was by far the best sleeping medicine I was ever on.

After the first night it kind of lost its strength a little but still worked wonders. I would wake up from loud noises but mostly, I would sleep like a baby. The only thing was if I didn't get a solid 10 hours of sleep, I was a zombie all day. But if I got my 10 hours, I was so fresh and rejuvinated. But each morning, I would have to peel my eyes open with my fingers, they were crusted together.

It worked wonders for my sleep and when I do have trouble with sleep, I temporarily go back on seroquel. I never noticed a weight gain. I'm not sure though if it effects glucose...

I think I may ask my doctor for seroquel for sleep, beause I either stay up all night after getting off my 3-11:30p shift or going to sleep at 3am. My doc says she doesn't want me on any meds are too heavy due to my job. I was on ambien previously but I had hallucinations.

I am all too familiar with the zombie feeling and it usually happens when they adjust another antipsychotic that I'm already on. Sleep is the only remedy until I adjust. But 10 hours sleep on Seroquel isn't too bad as I require 9 to feel refreshed. Did you start out with 75mg or did you start out on a lower dose?

I don't think it's unreasonable to go to bed 3 hours after getting home at 11:30pm as you need some time to wind down from work. Work is stimulating. For me, even after just watching a movie I need time to wind down before I go to bed. But for you staying up all night, that's not good.

I'm sorry to hear you had adverse effects from Ambien. I've heard of other's similar experience. But for me, I found it to be a really good sleep aid before becoming tolerant to it after a decade of use. Perhaps Seroquel will do wonders for you as well as for myself. Here's to hoping it does.

I take 175mg XR Serequol, It does help my sleep when it kicks in. I have been on Serequol for over a year. It use to work but I always felt like a zombie during the day so the Psych changed it from regular Serequol to Slow Release Serequol and that seems to work. Well as long as I don't fight sleep. I have gotten very shakey due to the Serequol though my hands and body shake. That and I can't seem to lose weight I am trying my hardest to lose some but to no avail.

I had gone through a trauma & couldn't sleep because of the nightmares & I was dealing with bad anorexia because of the stress I went through...had even been in the medical hospital because of the anorexia with a central line & IV nutrition after my mother finally died (trauma was with the home care person who was pulling abuse things that I was trying to figure out what was going on).

My pdoc tried the normal anti-anxiety meds that had absolutely NO EFFECT. I ended up on 600mg of seroquel. Knocked me out real good...fact I had no weight in the first place & the fact that I hadn't slept in so long....but the hung over never left. For several years, I was on the seroquel while decreasing the dose...I finally ended up on 25mg.

Five years ago when I left my husband & moved far away with 5 of my dogs, I had to quit taking anything that made me non-functional & even the 25mg left me feeling so hung over, I couldn't function.

I have been struggling with sleep over these 5 years....even though the nightmares are no longer haunting me & I have a wonderful psychologist & I'm doing the DBT group.....I still can't get to sleep unless I am so exhausted I can't push myself to stay awake any longer.

Blood pressure ended up last week at 195/125 at my pain specialist....& my pain meds are completely controlling my pain....so it's not the pain causing the high blood pressure.....I believe it's the lack of sleep.....so when I expressed the fact that I wasn't just not sleeping well, I wasn't sleeping....he gave me tamazapam for it....my pharmacist (friend) suggested a natural sleep aid. I have both to use now....the last few nights I have been so exhausted I haven't needed anything.....but when I do have problems, I will rather try the natural aid & only use the med when I really need it.

For me, the seroquel leaves me so hung over the next day no matter how small the dose that it's not worth even trying to use it.

Hope you have better luck with the sleep....meletonan & the natural sleep aids seem to be much safer & should be more effective working with our natural body chemistry.

Currently, I'm taking 3mg of melatonin along with Ambien CR and I still wake up real early. I've even doubled the melatonin but I still didn't see a difference, so now I just take 3mg prophylactically as I've read melatonin decreases with age so it's really good to keep at optimal levels.

ah, definitely my problem......had to chuckle at my pain specialist....regarding my high blood pressure.....he said...well, you are almost 60.....but he could have made the comment about my lack of sleep being because I'm "almost 60" with a lack of melatonin as I get older. Interesting fact to know. I didn't realize that the sleep issues was also tied with age....it makes sense with what you are saying about the lower level of melatonin. Thank you for that added information.

I'm really hoping I can get back into a normal sleep pattern. I know that my energy level is much greater when I get the needed sleep. Early to bed & early to rise.....I end up getting more things accomplished by the time I would normally get up than I do in a whole day when I'm dragging from lack of sleep.

There are other meds than ambien and seroquel.

It's a persona choice I guess, but I would never take seroquel. We do have diabetes running in the family and I wouldn't risk it. Because my irregular habits, diabetes would be a death sentence.
