I know a friend used the money she had been buying using cigarettes with to put towards nicotine gum and/or patches.
Another friend went 'cold turkey' without any nicotine: used hard candies, suckers, regular gum, cut down drinking straws to cigarette size or used licorice to suck on, and made a point to stay very busy every time he got the urge in order to distract him. He also kept a rubber band on his wrist, that he could snap or take off to manipulate / play with so his hands had something to do in some settings. Clear out/hide all of your ashtrays and lighters. Use a room spray to help with any smells that might trigger you. Avoid tasks that you know will trigger you, or do them in a different place. If you always have a cigarette at the computer or watching tv, change places if you can even if it is a different spot on the sofa and get something to drink, fiddle with a pen, or have a magazine/book on hand to look at or another hobby to do as a distraction. Put candies and gums in all of these places so they are easily accessible. When my Dad quit, the smoking hotline here said an initial urge will usually pass in about 5 minutes, an eternity on one hand, but if you can get past this by being involved in something else, you'll do fine. You may initially cough a lot as the carbon monoxide leaves your system but just takes a couple of days. Several people have reported dreaming more during this time as well, as your brain is getting losing the toxins and getting more oxygen. These are the things I have seen being used by many trying to quit. Perhaps it will help, GOOD LUCK! PS. W/ all the candies throughout the day, be sure to brush your teeth more thoughout the day too. Helps as a distraction as well. ![]() Last edited by Fresia; Jul 03, 2010 at 07:27 AM. |

Hi, I know this is going to sound to good to be true, but i quit about 3 years ago when i found out about a book called Alan Carr's Easyway To Stopping Smoking.
Obviously there is no guarantee that it is going to work, but for less than the price of a pack of cigarettes you've not that much to lose. Good luck in quitting the evil weed. Rainbow EDIT: Just looked on Amazon and on marketplace it is being sold for a 1p ![]()
