I had heard the commercials on the radio for this product for a long time. Nver really paid close attention to them, other than I knew that youn inhaled/exhaled, water vapor.

So my wife and I had a (ahem) discussion on how I have to quit smoking. I have been a smoker for 30 years. I have made countless attempts at quitting but have never had any real success.

This discussion got so heated that I even talked with the Pastors at my church. one of them, the executive pastor no less, has offered to be my quit buddy and we prayed that God would show me the way.

Next morning, I woke up and knew what I had to do. E-Cigarettes.

These things are nothing less than a miracle.

The look, feel, taste, and act just like a smoke, only there is no fire, no ash, no smell, no smoke, no carcinogins, no harmful chemicals, none of that.

What there is, is a minute amount of nicotine (about the same as in a nicotine patch with some food grade chemicals that are harmless to help create the vapors.

I ordered my starter pack with financial help from the Pastor and the kit is arriving at my house today.

So even if I am never able to quit, I will never be a smoker again.

This is so cool I feel like a little boy on Christmas morning!

Looks like an expensive gimmick to me; it's the nicotine that is addictive so you will have to keep spending money on them. My husband is in your shoes though so I have given him the link to the website. Did you see how few puffs you get of each to count as a "cigarette" worth?

http://www.americanheart.org/present...dentifier=4753

I would think nicotine patches would be less expensive and closer to "giving up" the addiction (since it would not have the whole habit of smoking/putting a cigarette in one's mouth as part of the solution). You cannot "cheat" an addiction; if you have a drinking problem you have to give up drinking; if you have a nicotine addiction you have to give up nicotine; anything else is only fooling one's self; being proud of not tarring up your lungs is not the same as facing the actual problem?

Yeah I hear what you are saying. I am a recovering alcholic myself. Going on 2 years without a drink.

That said, when I wake up tomorrow and take my first puff, I wont be a smoker anymore.

Nicotine gets a bad wrap. It is suffering from guilt by association. They processes involved in smoking, things like carbon monoxide, and arsenic are the things that are bad for you.

Many doctors are actually recommending e cigs for their patients that can't quit.
Nicotine, in itself isnt anymore harmful for a person than caffiene or saccharin...all can increase blood pressure, but a child can go buy a soda or a parent can buy a box of sweet and low at the grocery store.

Look I am not say e cigs are a health food. lol

And I am not suggesting someone buy these to start vaping.

But for smokers like myself, who can't quit...the only other option is to continue to use a product that will kill us makes no sense when we can now use a product that wont kill us, and for all intents and purposes is harmless.

And for the record, my only interest in this is for that preceeding paragraph. I make no profit or gain from what people do with this information.

All I know is that I wont smoke another cigarette or harm my lungs further.

That is a God send.

(one note) I am still in the learning phase....some Docs say Nicotine is harmful, some say it's not..I have only been researching this for a couple of weeks. But in my research I have read a ton of articles and watched a lot of video on it.

From what I have seen, this is a legimate option for those of us who suffer and have no other way out.

Congratulations on everyone for taking that step, and for those with long-term sobriety.

I recently quit cigarettes. While I didnt use any devices and strictly went cold-turkey for mine and my wifes health, I must say that I support the e-cig.

I noticed that going cold turkey on the cigarettes was actually fairly easy for myself. It wasnt the cigarettes that I had an issue with, it was the actual physical act of smoking. With the e-cig, I would have had that act, without the negative associations with smoking. I am not say that I agree that nicotine is getting a purely bad wrap. I thought I read somewhere that tobacco is a natural bug-deterrant because of the nicotine. Usually its not a good thing if nature doesnt want to mess with something. On this note, I think that alternatives to DEET and OFF bug spray is a better market for tobacco than cigarettes.... only problem is that it is not as profitable.

All I know is that in the 30 years I smoked, I had a ton of skeeter bites!

My husband uses his cigarettes that way in the summer, out on the deck and camping :-) Maybe it just keeps them away from one's face where the smoke is, so he doesn't get the knats and some of the skeeters.

How's the e-cig thing working for you pete's sake? I didn't like the idea when I read you only get 4-6 puffs to equal 1 cigarette. Did you get a "flavor" or what?

I read, while researching the Chantix pill, that cold turkey is really the only way to give up smoking as that's what everything comes down to in the end; you eventually have to go cold turkey from the patch and from the alternate drug in Chantix, etc.

I was watching back-to-back episodes of "Dr. G: Medical Examiner" with her work in the morgue and she was doing people who had smoked (and others overweight, like myself as well as both) and all the problems with lungs and hearts, etc. Nicotine apparently doesn't do the heart good, accelerates blockage of the arteries.

Hi Forpetessake, I believed for thirty years that I couldn't quit untill I came across these amazing quit smoking educators. It's kind of magic what they do, by helping us to realise our powerlessness over our addiction they give us the power to overcome it. I have been quit for over three years now. It was tough at the start but it gets easier and easier untill you don't even think about smoking any more. If you want to check out their education and support web site it's www.whyquit.com all their materials and support are free. Like here, God bless volunteers Don't know how long I've been sober but I am sober today. PS what's a skeeter

Skeeter is an unkind nickname given to the Mosquito. Usually used in the southern United States (as far as I know).

There is a city outside of Dallas Texas called Mesquite. There high school at one point (*my father was a graduate) had the mascot as the 'Squite Skeeters... and yes it was a mosquito.

I've tried almost every possible way of quitting, including cold turkey and nothing has ever lasted. Not smoking made my depression 1,000 times worse. I've been smoke free for over a year now (using the ecig) and my depression isnt any worse than when I was smoking so I'm very satisfied with it. I spend about $30 a month "vaping" compared to $7.50 a day smoking (pack a day smoker) so it definitely saves money too.

My fiance smokes these, but for some reason they make me wheeze if I use them. I think its got something to do with moisture from the water vapor collecting in my lungs. Anyone else having this problem?

there are forums just for people who vape. instead of smoke. I will probably never quit vape-n but I did quit reg cigs. if you need any info send me a PM
good luck

The ecig is the only thing that worked for me, a 35 year smoker, who had tried everything from prescription to over-the-counter to cold turkey. Now, after 1.5 years of using the ecig as a quit device, I no longer even think about smoking. I can go without the ecig for weeks, months, without any withdrawal effects, can take trips with my nonsmoker friends without the crutch of the cig or ecig. I've probably saved over $1,000.
Interestingly, I've found that regardless of the nicotine content of the juice, whether high, med., low or even zero, there is no addictive effect. I know they say nicotine is the addictive substance that keeps one chained to tobacco, but from my exp, I truly believe the tobacco companies put something extra in the cigs, to keep us enslaved! And, they are fighting tooth and nail to get the ecig banned.
I recommend the ecig to anyone who wants to quit!

What I like most about the electronic cigarette is that I can choose how much or how little nicotine I want in it. I usually have the nicotine-free organic waffle flavor in the morning, then if I need it, change to a 9mg french pipe in the afternoon. But more often than not these days I'm sticking to having no nicotine at all.

It seems that the general consensus here is that e-cigs are a good thing. It would appear that it's time for more action on that conclusion, as follow.

As a smoker looking to get off, myself, I would most appreciate you more experienced folks posting the names of what you think are the best e-cigs and their prices, together with links to the sales sites and also links to special forums for people using e-cigs.

There's an awful lot out there that I'd hate to have to sift through myself without some word from people who've already done this.
