I thought that, being a supportive forum community and all, we could make a thread where folks can check in, find encouragement, and cheer others on in kicking the smoking habit. I, myself, don't smoke so I might not be of very much help other than through encouragement in and of itself though. I do sort of understand it's hard to quit, but it can always be done by anyone if they really try and have a good support network. That's the purpose of my idea, to help those who don't want to be slaves to such a habit anymore but don't have a support network in place in their lives to help them do so.

What do you think?

I know that quitting this nasty habit is very difficult, but if given a strong enough desire to do so, anyone can do it!! My own mother was a heavy smoker in her younger years, but when she was expecting my older brother, she and Dad decided to quit cold turkey, they had trouble the first time, but they were determined to not give up, and ultimately succeeded.

There is a smoking cessation forum under health.

Not sure how much it gets used.

By the way, Wellbutrin ( a drug prescribed for mood disorders) is primarily used for smoking cessation.

I quit in 1993 and couldn't have done it without support. It was daily check in with a friend that made the difference.

I very much dislike menthol cigarettes...so to cut down on smoking I have switched to menthol. These feed my addiction, but I smoke much much less.

I hope more people join cause I'm going to quit in a few weeks and could really use the support. I've actually become suicidal when quitting before and that is what's scary for me. I figure on PC, people would be more understanding of the unique perspective of those with Mental Illness.

Ah, gearing yourself up for the big battle to quit? I guess it takes a bit for one to fully prepare for the struggles, cravings, and overall war against the nicotine that has infiltrated their body.

Some find it easier to just stop right in the moment, but I guess for others especially those who are in a more vulnerable mindset require a bit of a grace period before the attempt to quit can get underway.

Yeah, mindset is important. I also plan to use patches and a vape for a short time....need all the help I can get. I plan to quit when my monthly ends next time....that is when I seem to be at my peak And have a higher threadhold for stress, anxiety, life.

Wellbutrin and Chantix have worked for a lot of people...be careful with them both if you have a mood disorder though - I tried Wellbutrin a couple of years ago and it put me in a mixed state (worst experience ever!) My doc won't even let me try Chantix so I am stuck trying to quit the hard way

I have cut down on my smoking and I am alternating "real" cigs with an e-cig and then lowering the nicotine content in the cartridges I buy...

It's working so far but I definitely have good days and bad days...wish me luck

Well...this is it. I woke up with only 3 cigarettes left. I'm too tired, broke, and fed up to go buy more. Smoked 2 this morning. Will save the last one for tomorrow morning. I think I'm done. Smoking is making me feel sick these days.

I've smoked for a long time, quit a few times and now on day 3 quitting with Champix. Champix is really helping, although I am still batteling with a bit of craving!

I tend to smoke when I'm manic because it takes the edge off, but I'm well now and stuck again. I intend to have a smoke-free weekend. I almost did it last weekend. One cigarette. Gonna try again. I HATE this. I do not want to smoke. Any help would be much appreciated.

Good afternoon. I'm new here and looking for support. Would it be okay if I joined?

Today is day 21 without smoking cigarettes with the help of the patch and gum. I'm really nervous though as this weekend I'm going out of town for work. I'm already fantasizing and romanticizing about going to smoke "just" while I'm away and then quit again once I get home. I know if I slip up I'll be right back to where I was before. This is like the millionth time quitting.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone and offering support where I can.
