I suffer from Bipolar disorder, OCD, and AADD. Quite a load on my life through the years. I read, studied and worked very hard to find a solution that may level me out so I could live a life to be proud of. But, what I learned I had to follow my own advice daily. MAYBE, this will help someone here ? I call it the SIX STEPS TO SELF AWARENESS !

1) Self Discovery = I spent years not knowing what I was or whom I was. But any type of discovery takes time and study to get the KNOWLEDGE desired. First comes knowledge and then discovery. (quote) "The self is only that which is in the process of becoming."

2) Self-Knowledge= Once you have discovered who you are, you use your attained knowledge to know what to do with and how to treat the discovery you made. (quote) "You have to know what is important and un-important to you."

3) You have discovered your true self and you have the knowledge needed to know your likes, dislikes, and desires. What you have learned may not all be socially right and called wrong, but hey, you have discovered that and if it is not right, you can and only you can make it right. The joy in that is the discovery and the challenge. (quote) "There's only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that is your own self."

4) Self-Esteem = You have made your changes and you like what you have become. (quote) "Think highly of yourself for the world takes you at your own estimate."

5) Self-Worth = You must believe you are deserving of an abundant life. You can not create outside of your own belief. If you don't feel deserving, you cannot create your hearts desire.

6) Self-Love = Now you are ready to love what once was the un-lovely you. Now you are truly a work of art and you are the artist. Love what you see and feel. (quote) "Resolve to be thyself and know, that he who finds himself, loses misery."

I spent years working on these 6 steps, and now for one more quote. "I've come to believe that all my past failures and frustrations were actually laying down the foundation for the knowledge and understandings that have created the new level of living I now enjoy."
Thanks for this!

Incredibly put, these steps do unveil a light upon yourself that you have never seen before and is an amazing daily discovery. Self awareness is the most powerful aspect an individual can unveil to oneself. Quite an amazing list that I highly agree with and respect you for putting it out there for others to read.

Are there any books that go into depth on this subject matter? Self-discovery?

I am reading a section on awareness in a book titled "Attachment in Psychotherapy" by David J Wallin. This seciton is about the healing qualities of learning to be aware of awareness. It is a very good book and I like this section very much.

Man's Search for Meaning is an excellent book on self-discovery.

It's written by a prominent psychiatrist Viktor Frankl, definitely would recommend it.
