Maven, I have to admit that you've made a very compelling argument. I had a different position on this when I first started reading this thread, but after reading what you wrote, I have actually come around to see your point of view. That doesn't happen often to a girl who thinks she's always right Some may find this offensive...

I suppose I should have read all the posts before I opened my mouth, huh?! But, now that I have I understand why you said that, sky! But I still stand by what I said, I don't see the word ***** as being such a bad word..not if you take it that way..I guess it is just how you percieve it and how the word is being said and of course who is saying it..lol..

What a terrific line of thought! I, for one, never thought of the word "*****" as one I would want to attach to myself, but I have a new appreciation of those who do. It is true that other words, such as "queer" and "wetback" have been proudly adopted.

There is, however, an accpeted definition of the difference between aggression and assertion that has not been stated. Assertion is not allowing another to infringe upon your rights or injure you; aggression is the act of hurting another, of limiting or restricting, interfering with their rights and/or well-being, wthether physical, emotional, or pschologically. Speaking for myself, I have been the victim of more than enough aggression, and I would never want to inlict that upon another. Nor do I make it my mission to enlighten them or win the argument, I just walk away.

IMHO , my name is Angie, the name has respect, my generation beleives in respecting each other, I'm neither a ***** nor a slut. No one else here deserves to belittle themselves with these words, not trying to offend, but this offends nice ppl like you all and me.

Some may find this offensive...

The term invokes negativity to most of society. It doesn't create any pleasing visual image either. IMO that others can relate to it doesn't surprise me. So much of what we think we feel about ourselves comes from how we were treated as children, and how we have become aware and reeducated ourselves to the truth.

I won't use the term. It's demeaning, whether you sense this or not, imo.

I saw this on somebody's profile on another website and I thought you may appreciate it as I did....

B!TCHOLOGY?!? When I stand up for myself and my beliefs, they call me a b!tch. When I stand up for those I love, they call me a b!tch. When I speak my mind, think my own thoughts or do things my own way, they call me a b!tch. Being a b!tch means I won`t compromise what`s in my heart. It means I live my life MY way. It means I won`t allow anyone to step on me. When I refuse to tolerate injustice and speak against it, I am defined as a b!tch. The same thing happens when I take time for myself instead of being everyone`s maid, or when I act a little SELFish. It means I have the courage and strength to allow myself to be who I truly am and won`t become anyone else`s idea of what they think I "should" be. I am outspoken, opininated and determined. I want what I want and is nothing wrong with that! So try to stomp on me, try to douse my inner flame, try to squash every ounce of beauty I hold within me. You won`t succeed. And if that makes me a b!tch, so be it. I embrace the title and am proud to bear it. <~~ Author Unknown

Wow! That's awesome! Very empowering for us women. It's something my T would say, I'm sure. Some may find this offensive...

Sometimes assertiveness can be misinterpreted as being a ***** especially in women. Our society has a stereotype of women being nice, pleasant and sweet. When we buck this stereotype we are sometimes seen as a *****.
I don't want to see myself as a *****. But, I do want to learn how to express my anger in a socially acceptable way that might help me to resolve it when it comes up. In other words, I would like to work on being more assertive. My T kind of likes the word assertive. She tells me to be assertive at work in asking for days off to talk to her.
I don't find it offensive if you proudly where the label as long as you are clear on the definition your using which you are. So, have a good time standing up for yourself. We all need to do that at times.

I'm so glad I'm a *****, I'd rather be a *****, then a weak woman who allows people to walk all over her.

From Merriam-Webster free online:[b] </font><blockquote><div id="quote"><font class="small">Quote:</font>
Main Entry: 1*****
Pronunciation: 'bich
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English bicche, from Old English bicce
1 : the female of the dog or some other carnivorous mammals
2 a : a lewd or immoral woman b : a malicious, spiteful, or overbearing woman -- sometimes used as a generalized term of abuse
3 : something that is extremely difficult, objectionable, or unpleasant

</div></font></blockquote><font class="post">

So I liken it to like the poor child who is developmentally challenged, that others call "retard." The child calls himself a retard, because he just doesn't realize it is a negative word, term. Certainly that wouldn't suggest that everyone should just go along with using that word, does it?

The '*****' word, as noted above, is a negative one, an abusive term. I hope all of you who are proud of it, will one day be able to think of yourself in a respectable manner.

But just like any other negative, abusive term used here at PC, I won't condone it. Some may find this offensive... TC!
