I am always depending on other people to build up my self esteem. I get compliments all the time. When I tell myself something positive it doesn't sound the same as when someone else says something positive about me. When I tell myself it doesn't feel good, when other people say it does. Is it like this for alot of people? I want to be able to build up my self esteem myself, how do you do it? It always feels good when other people say positive things about me but it doesn't when I tell myself. It's not the same feeling. If there are other people on here like this please let me know, thanks!

For myself, complements from others are usually only temporary self-esteem boosters, and when I can complement myself and believe it, that lasts longer. My hardest thing is believing any complement's that come my way: I think you just have to accept your good qualities realistically, and allow yourself to be happy when you use these qualities. And also, don't discount other's complements towards you: acceptance is something we all seek. We just have to be able to hold that contentment within us, and not let our self-esteem plummet as soon as the complement ends.
