Every time I feel anxious and shy around people I do the following things (when I remember to do so):

1. I go to the closest bathroom and breathe. I take 3 or 4 long breathes, inhale and exhale slowly. that really helps me immediately to release the tension. It's just temporary, but that is all I need at those moments.

2. Meditate at night before I go to sleep. I wish I would do it everyday, but 4 times a week is fine too. I just discovered a new YouTube channel that has been really helpful and I use it's subliminal meditations and binaural beats (or however you write it haha)

3. I interact with people and make connections with positive people. I work in a movie theatre, so it's a great opportunity to have small talks with customers and also improve my social skills.

The thing is that it doesn't come naturally to me. I have to remind myself to do so, but when I do, I can feel the difference right away.

What are your steps to increase or deal with low self esteem?

I deal with my low self-esteem by trying to always look my best around others. I realize that strangers may at first be curious or uncomfortable around me because of my disability so I try to smile to put them at ease. The more comfortable they become the easier I feel around them and the stress & tension seems less.
