Oh, Fuzzy... That was a very interesting question! "Special" might not be the right word to use... meaning that someone has touched our heart... We are all special... unique! We all have our good and bad sides. Starting to really think deep about the meaning of the word... "special friend" makes the word kind of less special. We have those we like and love more than others around us... but still we are ALL special. It's just like with the word "normal"... Who's to say what is normal??? So... what is special??? I guess it's different for each and everyone of us, the way we use these words... to whom... Depends on our own personality and views of life... I think...

Thanks Nina, I like your reply...... I know some people in my family used words like that without thinking (and never about me, I was the black sheep).......but I agree, we are all special, unique, and we ALL have good and bad in us! Sometimes it takes a real friend to discover who we really are and the good inside us......and the good thing is we are ALL constantly changing, whether slow or fast, whether obvious to others or not, its a fact! And WE choose whether to change for the better, and whether to focus on the good or the dark side of life....and of other people. And we choose whether to see others in shades of black and white... or to see the grey in everyone
Thanks hon ((((((((((((((( Nina )))))))))))))))) __________________ |

I think a judgement about whether a person is special or not is subjective. That is, I don't think we can go through the human population and say "This person is special" and "This one is not."
A special bond or love or memory may make a person special to me who means nothing to you, and vice versa. It does make me wonder if whether we can identify certain influential people as special: Was Mahatma Gandhi special according to some set of objective criteria? Or must one be a peace lover to view Gandhi as special, which again puts the evaluation into the category of subjective. Interesting question, FB, and I don't see why there would be anything annoying about it in the least. But then, there are all too many people who find me annoying and things worse than that. __________________ |

special to me in a person context is someone who shows compassion and love and will go the extra mile to make someone else happy, or smile or just be there when a friendly shoulder is needed. this is just my opinion - jinny xoxoxox

Good post jinny.... the problem in group dynamics can occur when some people "dont get along" which skews things
But thanks, you're a wonderful friend to so many here and I'm proud to call you friend Disclaimer. I am referring to groups IRL. __________________ |

special is a person who chose to rely absolutely on himself, who is not tryig to fit in to siciety.
when we try to fit in, we loose our originality. i agree, everyone is sepcual, you have just to find it inside and then let it out. that`s what i posted the link about-self reliance. it`s talking exactly about this! |

Special... I'd say special is a way of saying someone is unique. By definition, and by virtue of DNA, of course we are all unique (well except identical twins, but then they're unique by being identical), so all special.
I actually think simply being alive is pretty special. I mean just think about it. Every single one of your ancestors, going all the way back through Homo sapiens, through to those that lived in trees, the sea, and even back to the "primordial soup" (or, if you're religious, dating back to whenever you believe creation happened) survived in order to create the next generation. The odds of that are incredible. Just think of all the famines, predators, natural disasters etc that every single one of your ancestors survived (until they'd reproduced anyway). There's probably a higher chance of someone winning the lottery, than of that particular person existing! So it's special in that sense... Sorry if this got slightly off topic, you can probably tell I'm into the sciences :-) -Meander __________________ If you're going through hell, keep going.... (Churchill) |
