I am so sorry. Everyone deserves a loving mother. I can relate, as I'm sure many others here can too. Remember it's only one day...maybe you could celebrate yourself instead!

It is a difficult day for me too. The general population just takes it for granted that mothers ought to be celebrated and I often long to be able to respond to the 'day' like most people do. But having realised some years ago she has NPD, and is therefore incapable of the most basic mothering skills, empathy, attunement etc, the day just makes me sad.

Yeah, this is where I'm at, too. The day makes me angry because it just perpetuates the pedestal that our society puts mothers upon, and making it look like a mother can do no wrong. It's that perception that my mother has used to manipulate my entire family from turning their back on me when I needed them to protect me from her.
