I don't know where to post this so I'm trying it here. If it's not the right forum, please feel free to post it somewhere else.
I have something that keeps popping up in my mind now and then. It bothers me a lot. So I thought maybe if I talk about it someone could give me their opinion on it. Why would a therapist tell her patient that if she was at his place, she would beat his wife pretty good to teach her a listen so that his wife would think twice before hurting him again. This therapist never even met the wife. |

Maybe this was the therapist's misguided attempt to align herself with the client. Like saying, "I'm with you on this, and I'm really upset about what she's doing to hurt you!" Regardless of the therapist's intention, though, this seems really inappropriate.
PS - I'm not sure whether this belongs here or in the Psychotherapy forum, either, so I'll just leave it here. |

Sounds a little off to ME, for if we the patient said that - the therapist might have us locked up.... guess what is good for the goose is not always good for the gander.
