When i was 7 i was sexually abused. Up till about a month ago i havnt remembered any of it, i was starting to think it never happened! My therapist told me i had blocked it and it would have to be triggered on its own. Therapy is expensive so i went on a quest looking for these memorys and trying to trigger them. The scary thing is i think its working.. I keep having midday flashbacks of thinks that happened! But at the same time i also have an overactive imagination. I could be just making it up. How can i unblock memorys?!

i think your pdoc meant if these memories are real they will possibly surface on their own without any emphasis re them on your part. i had a similar situ and my T suggested we leave it alone unless it became more intense with clear memories. then ,if so we'ed delve deeper. as it has turned out those thoughts left me. imo i was having a false positive thought.

There is a phenomenon about the mind, it >according to research< can not
tell the difference from real memories and manufactured ones. (proprecipeince)

Therapy is here to help you, that is its purpose. To quote the DisneyLand

Choose your "T" wisely.

"T" = Therapist./ Therapy.

there are many ways to unblock memories if they really are there... journalism is one way. just keep a daily log of how you are feeling and how your day went. if you were sexually abused the memories will come up automatically in your writing. Some people use transposed writing (writing with the opposite hand that you usually write with. they just write out how they are feeling and if the memories are there they will come out.) theres also hypnosis, art therapy, music therapy, relaxation therapy, Aroma therapy, ... most memories of sexual abuse comes out when you are not trying to make yourself remember things. which is probably what your treatment provider meant... dont worry about it. they will come out on their own when its time for the memories to come if there are any repressed memories.

trying too hard to do something can also cause you to make up memories that are not there. that can lead to so many other problems. you say you have an over active imagination so its a very real posibility that you have been trying so hard that your brain may be causing you to have pseudo flashbacks. thats similar to flase memory syndrome.

talk with your treatment provider they can help you discover whether you were abused or not. if you are going through false flash backs your treatment providers can help you to stop them.
