Does anyone else feel safe sleeping/spending time in their closet in order to 'feel safe'?
I have slept in my closet many times because I do not feel safe in my bed and recently I've developed this longing to be in my closet because its the only 'safe place' outside my therapists office. My T says I should do whatever makes me feel safe but I can't help wondering if anyone else out there does this. Makes me feel a bit childish. What do you guys do to feel safe? |

This brings back memories. The closet was my safe place when I was a child. The sad thing is, no one ever missed me and I spent hours in there. I can understand why you feel that the closet offers safety.

I used to hide in my closet, growing up, and I've ducked into my closet at times as an adult, too. I go with our Ts: whatever works. When I stopped judging myself for doing what helped me, I was able to take care of myself more. So go in your closet if you need it! It's not like you won't come out in a while (or a day, or whatever) and continue with your adult life. If it helps you feel contained and safe, do it.

i did the opposite for some reason. instead of finding a safe place. i would put myself in the middle of danger.
