My friend has always been in unstable/ abusive relationships. Her first boyfriend broke several bones and locked her in rooms ect. Now she is older but just got abused again by someone different.
How can I help her not get back with her boyfriend and help her? She thinks she is in total control over the situation now by filing a restraining order but to me, I can see she is too paranoid and is locking herself in her house to protect her. I think that is exactly what he wants and knows he can still get to her.

I would suggest encouraging her to read Why Does He Do That? by Lundy Bancroft. Is it possible to get her to speak to a counsellor or helpline at all also, maybe a phoneline if she doesn't feel able to go out?

I was abused by both of my husbands. Unfortunately, she is the only one who can decide when she's had enough. Just be there for her when she leaves him.

I would suggest the book that saved my life: The Verbally Abusive Relationship by Patricia Evans.
