Just found out my daughter has been molested and dont know how to help her.
Is it best to make him pay even if may tear my family apart, or to seek help for us to deal with this. Please give me advice on both sides of the fence. She just turned 18. |

The most important thing is getting your daughter help. Get her a therapist who specializes in trauma.

I'm so sorry! This happened in my family as well. Please get her and yourself some help.
My daughter was hesitant to talk about it and absolutely refuses to testify, though the detective allowed her to write the statement at home and not be interviewed. Our situation is unique in that her abuser was already imprisoned and the detective was certain of her safety. Her trauma-focused therapy helped her tell me about it, over a year after the abuse ended. Should she ever get the chance to have him in court, therapy will be what helps her testify against him. Therapy helps her stop self-injuring, deal with her panic attacks, and her PTSD symptoms. As her mom I'm not equipped to help her with any of that. All I can do is love her and get her the help she needs from professionals qualified to do what she needs. Good luck to you and your daughter, she's lucky to have such a caring mom!! |
