So, the lease at my current apartment is up at the end of this month. Because they keep raising the rent, I have to move. I'd been looking for an apartment for weeks with no luck, because finding an affordable apartment in the Houston area that is also reasonably safe is apparently impossible. Until two days ago, when I finally found one. Good price, decent apartment, decent area...I actually started to think for a whole day that things might actually work out.

So this morning I went to my mom's house to do the application process thing to lease it. I'd be paying, but since I'm not currently employed (waiting on interviews...yaaay.) I have no proof of income, meaning my dad would have to co-sign the lease. So they did the whole application thing, everything for me was fine other than the lack of income...but not for my dad.
Apparently whatever company they used for the background checks is a little more in-depth/looks further back than any other ones in the past, so it came back showing a criminal record. It didn't tell the apartment management what that was for, but I know that it's from a child abuse conviction in 1993. Child abuse involving me, when he threw me as a baby and nearly killed me.

Because of that, I won't be able to lease the apartment. So basically I won't be able to live there because of **** that happened to me. I'm suffering the consequences of his actions. Again. This was kind of the "last straw" for me, so I've pretty much told them that I'll figure out everything else on my own from now on. I have enough money saved up to keep my stuff in storage for a month or two and either stay with friends or find a cheap extended-stay hotel, until I find a job which will hopefully be soon and can provide my OWN proof of income for leasing an apartment.
I don't want and won't accept their help anymore, I don't want his name on a lease or anything of mine, and most of all I don't want to keep playing into their delusion that I've made it this far because of them. So living in a hotel or a friend's couch isn't the easiest choice, but I know in the long run it's the right one.

I only hope this all works out in the end...somehow...

I think I already gave you all of my suggestions. Will try to think of other possible ways to be helpful when it isn't 2:45am though. In the meantime, sending lots of hugs, and I know that you can work things out because I know that you're smart
