I have been in therapy for just over a year and a half. I see my t twice a week usually, but recently it's increased to three times. I am sorry if my question seems stupid, but I don't really understand. When I finish a session, not every time, but quite a few, I walk back to my car yawning and struggle to drive home without yawning constantly and feeling like I could drop off any minute. Often I will then sleep undisturbed for about 14 hours. (I am not usually a good sleeper). Does anyone else experience this? I am wondering if maybe I have something else wrong with me. It doesn't seem very normal to me.

Does this happen every day or just after therapy. It doesn't really matter. If it concerns you then you should consider going to an MD and getting things checked out.

I happens to me if I've had a session that went deep into my issues. I get home and can barely keep my eyes open, go right to bed. I'm spent. It lingers for a couple days. I think it's emotionally draining to be in therapy when you're working on painful things.

My T (doing EMDR) says it's quite normal to get home and want to sleep and that I should expect to be tired. Given I also have rheumatoid arthritis I have even more reason to be...
I'm having a lot of disturbed sleep after sessions as well, and sometimes when a session is getting close. So I think it can probably work either way. Take care if you have to drive straight afterwards - if you're too sleepy maybe have a cup of coffee before you go home? ![]() Bluegrey |
