I don't remember being dropped on my head as a child, but I have a large indentation on the upper back of my crown so my head isn't perfectly shaped. It seems to be asymmetrical, more on one side than another. I sometimes wonder if someone, such as perhaps a babysitter, dropped me on my head.

Sometimes if the birth process is difficult, the MD's might use forcepts to help get the baby out.....there have been some instances where those forcepts have done damage similar to that while the bone of the skull hasn't become solid as it does after birth.
Maybe not dropped on your head but something else might have happened at the time of birth....might want to ask your mom about your birth to see if she had a difficult time. This might be an interesting article for you to read: Misshapen Heads in Babies: Position or Pathology?

Maybe my birth doctor dropped me on my head. I'll ask my mother about it.

Maybe they used force to get you out of the birth canal enough force to make the dent but not to damage your brain?????? that's always a possibility as the article says.......there are times when force is needed to get a baby through the birth canal if they haven't done a c-section.

That would probably explain it. I suppose I'd remember if someone hit me on the head with a hammer when I was a youngster.

Probably.....but there are many things about my childhood that I don't remember & there are many things that others don't remember when it's involved with a trauma......but usually if you did get dropped on your head you would have other brain problems other than just the shape of your head.....things involved with TBI (traumatic brain injury) learning problems & difficulties functioning, sometimes a limp or inability to use one side of the body as well as the other......so it's probably just something simple like the MD having problems especially if you were a large baby or your mother had an extremely difficult labor with you.
If your mother is alive you might get her talking about your birth some time & they you could just ask the questions & get the answers easier out of the discussion & getting her talking about it.....amazing the information that one can get about their childhood from parents perception when you get them talking...LOL.

![]() Until I was 17. That's when eye doctors noticed I had almost no peripheral vision on the right side in both eyes, and wanted to do a bunch of tests and stuff to figure out why. Eventually my mom told me that when I was 3 months old, my dad threw me. My body landed on a pillow but my head hit the floor. I was lifeflighted to the hospital, where I was in a coma for 3 days and stayed in the hospital for almost a month. I had a skull fracture and so much bleeding in my head that I needed a blood transfusion. I was also on anticonvulsant medications for about 6 months (idk if I ever actually had seizures or if it was more of a preventative thing). Now, I'm not trying to scare you into thinking that something similar happened to you. It's more likely that it due to how you were born or something like that, especially if you don't have any other issues. (For example, I was VERY lucky to have turned out the way I did after such a severe injury, but besides the vision issues I also have coordination/sensation problems mainly on my right side, a lot of trouble with cognitive tasks like organization/planning, and pretty severe adhd that I believe is either caused by or worsened by the head injury). My advice would be to ask about it if its really bugging you, just be prepared for the small chance that something may have happened. If that turns out to be the case, feel free to PM me any time. But again, I'm sure it wasn't anything like that. ![]() |
