Hello Everyone,
I am a survivor of domestic violence. I was in the relationship for 1 and 1/2 years and people often ask me why the hell I stayed if it was so bad. I'm tired of hearing that and feel so alone. |

Hi there survivor_girl. Welcome to Psych Central. I am sorry that people do not understand your situation and how many challenges a victim of abuse faces. No one can know what you were going through and the pressures you were under. In abusive situations, sometimes staying can be a survival technique. I certainly is up to no one else to judge.
I find sharing things online people are more accepting because most everyone here has gone through challenging situations. Perhaps these articles may be of interest. https://psychcentral.com/lib/why-do-...-victims-stay/ https://psychcentral.com/lib/why-wom...ntrolling-men/

so many people think I'm making this up because I'm in a wheelchair and my abuser was blind. Or they get tired of me talking about it.

Some people seem to assume that in an equivalent situation, they would have it all figured out. Riiiiight.
