I have decided that I my father hitting me was part of a cycle. His father most likely hit him when he was a child, and so on and so forth going farther and farther back in history. Well, I refuse to let that cycle continue. I will not have children because I know I'm not capable of containing my anger enough to not become physically abusive.

No longer will this cycle of abuse continue. It ends with me.

I did the very same thing. Only that in my family tree there was no physical abuse, but emotional abuse. Otherwise, same story here.
