Dear all,

although I was badly being emotionally abused in my childhood and teenage time, for me the problems started to appear only in my early in my early 30s and it became really bad only in my late 30s. Is that normal/common? Can you relate or did it show for you immediately?

Best regards
Hugs from:

Thanks for this!

It's common for the effects of childhood abuse to show up later in life for some people.

Are you seeking help?

Well yes, of course. I have found out that it is for incredibly helpful for me to share and exchange with peers. I have been participating in ACoA online meetings for a bit more than a year and I also particpated here which is both very, very helpful for my healing.

I never found any "normal" person who I felt would really understand me, even not therapirsts. And the validation I'm getting is soo essential. So, I'd love to hear how it progressed for others here.

For me, the issues became pretty big almost immediately afterward.

I have been in therapy a l-o-n-g arse time, LOL! I've tried to "forget" traumatic incidents from the very beginning (age 5) and they've merely come and gone, slamming me each time the memory recurs. So ~ imo, it stinks both ways. Whether you repressed the memories & are now seeking help...or if you find help to deal with things immediately afterward. I guess that it's a life-changing event either way, and we need help adjusting to the world.
