So when I was 12 my mom made fun of me in front of my cousins and aunt because my bathing suit was showing my newly developed boobs. She was responsible for buying me a bathing suit so I didnt understand why she made fun of me wearing the only one I had. Then age 16 she said my boobs looked like eyeballs and I had a fat p*ssy. I never joked like this with my daughter.

This is not appropriate at all and, in fact, is very cruel. I'm sorry your mother tried to humiliate you in this way. I wouldn't define this as joking. I see it as a deliberate attempt to make you feel bad about yourself. The fact that you remember it to this day just shows you how hurtful her comments were to your self-esteem.

My mother was similar about my physical appearance. She had no boundaries when it came to stuff like that.

That is not at all appropriate. That is an awful thing to say and very damaging to the self image of a teen girl. That's awful. I am sorry she said those things to you, it would have had a terrible impact.

This is not normal! This is abuse. She may be very jealous of you. Some parents are very jealous of their kids. I'm sorry this has happened to you.

It's verbal and emotional abuse. I wouldn't quite call it sexual abuse, although it does have sexual overtones. I could be wrong, but I define sexual abuse as using someone for the abuser's pleasure who doesn't have the capacity to consent. Child, persom who is disabled, etc.

It sounds to me like your mother feels threatened in some way and doesn't want you to outshine her. She may think she's getting older and isn't as attractive anymore. So she undermines your confidence and makes fun of you so she can feel like she's still the queen bee.

Just a guess, of course.

This is not normal joking between a mother and a daughter. This actually is disturbing that your mother thought that it was acceptable to say those things to you. This sounds degrading. The fact that you still remember this experience to this day, shows that it has a long lasting effect on you. Have you tried approaching her about this? Maybe telling her how that made and still makes you feel will help you overcome this. I am so glad you do not speak like this with your daughter.
