A child's neurosis begins in the mind of the parents.” This is a quote from Dr. Arthur Janov's book The Feeling Child.~Howard Sasportas |

Can you elaborate? Like do you mean parental behavior is the foundation for a childs issues>?

Not their behaviour. How they think about the child. What they think about the child

Oh boy I think that's true. My mom told me one time that the only reason she had me was because all her friends were having babies. Not because she really wanted me. So yeah my entire lifetime of never feeling 'enough' prolly stems from her not wanting me but having me anyway for the wrong reason

I was supposed to be a boy. Because I'm a girl, I ended the long lineage of our family. My Dad is the last male of his family. My Mom said I ended the insanity, although she doesn't say that anymore because of my MI. I wonder if my Dad would have been happier with a boy. In between my sister and me, my parents did have a boy but he didn't make it. If he would have survived, I wouldn't be here. I've always tried to make it up to him, to make my life worth it because he didn't get to live his.

I agree. Sometimes the most influential (and not always positively influential) messages we receive about ourselves come from someone other than a parent -- it doesn't even necessarily have to be a relative.

Thats so interesting. They look at everything the kid does thru me-colored glasses. That was certainly the case with my parents. And the kid is left trying to figure out what sort of kaleidescope he is living in, that twists this word into that, this action into another, one meaning into something entirely different.

Of course, the list could go on. But it's the ones that are there the most. |

I meant that the neurosis could have started in the grandparents, and then be passed onto the parents, then the child. Could have been passed on for generations. Our parents too are survivors of something.
