So I’m going through what a I call a Trauma loop right now unfortunately. I’m finally writing it all down from beginning to end though to hopefully help myself. However something I remember that I don’t know if it’s normal or not is, I was about 4 and my mother found me in the bath tub laying on my back, legs open with the water running over my private areas. Now I know kids do things sexual in nature, but is this something that I would have know or tried at such a young age? I don’t remember much from my childhood except certain excerpts of trauma and I’m just wondering if this was a trauma indicator at such a young age? Any input would be appreciated.

Dear BlueEyez87,

I don't know what that means. Sometimes I wish I knew more about psychology. Hopefully others here will be helpful.

Sincerely yours, Yao Wen

Definitely discuss it with a therapist.

It's not a bad thing that you found the running water to feel good having contact with any of your body parts. Children discover there is something that feels good in that area, but they don't know what that means. It's just another part of self discovery. That is a sensitive area of the body, not just sexually, but also brings a relief when we gain more control over going to the bathroom on our own instead of just going in a diaper and also becoming more aware of keeping that area cleaned too. Children have to learn to control that area of their body and to learn how when they do go on their own to also wipe themselves and keep that area clean.
Thanks for this!

How did your mother respond?
