Child sexual abuse survivor. Physical abuse. Verbal abuse. Emotional abuse ... all at the hands of my father. Rejected by my mother (she chose him). I am SO messed up. Can anyone honestly tell me that it will ever get any better?

Hi there... yeah, it really can get better. I very recently met up with some old friends whom I haven't seen for many years. They stayed in therapy and worked hard on their issues, while I opted out for some years and did my best to get on with living.
If I had stayed in T, maybe I would be where they are now... which is at a very peaceful, integrated and content place in their lives. Both of them experienced extreme and long term abuse, and now they say their histories are just that - a part of their history. Not part of their present. A part of who they are and where they came from, a part of their strength, their compassion for others, and their desire to protect.... but otherwise it is just a part of their life story. They are no longer traumatised nor dominated by their respective pasts. So yeah... I honestly believe that with years of ongoing work the trauma can be overcome. |

I am where you are but can say that in the past year of therapy I can see progress. Hang in there you are not alone.

Thank you, I want to get better I do, but at the same time I don't even feel worthy of being happy or even content. I am checking on getting back into therapy, it's just so hard for me to TALK!!! I always feel like they (anyone, including therapists) are always judging me and looking down on me for saying how I feel, and I just always feel stupid. But in my brain, I know I have to do something more. Meds and trying to ignore things are not working at all anymore ...
Thank you for giving me some hope.
