I do not know what to do anymore, every antidepressant was tried with various hospital stays. I had a couple of times here & there that the med worked but only for 3 months which was long for me. Right now I am not doing good at all. I hate my life & everything that goes along with it. Can just about function anymore.

I dunno. It is frustrating. maybe keep trying. The best med that has ever worked for me I found after twenty years of taking meds. So you never know. Fetzima. It is already losing effectiveness though after six months so I dunno what to do other than increase dose and get as much mileage as I can out of it. There are three or four new ones out.

it sucks and is frustrating, but you have to just keep trying. I've been on 35+ meds and more combinations than I can count trying to get just the right thing.
My pdoc is certain that sooner or later we'll find the right thing
Thanks for this!

The pdocs from my last hospitalization changed ALL my meds. They put me on LexiPRO and Abilify and that only made the depression progress to suicidal ideation.

I think I'm in the same deep dark hole pacots. Maybe we should have a party to give a proverbial finger to the depression.

Hang tough pacots you don't have a lot of other choices right now. Just hang on , please.

You make it sound so easy....just put one foot in front of the other. Feel as though I have tried everything available. More drugs than I can count, many hospitalizations, ECT twice, therapy....group and one-on-one. As a previous post said.....depression has won and I have lost.

Hi pacots,

First of all, see a good MD if you haven't already and if you can manage it. There are many purely medical problems that can cause depression that will not be obvious to you at all. See

About 13:44 in, he talks about depression specifically and points out the any of the following can cause it:

1. Gluten -> Autoimmune disease thyroid
2. Acid reflux -> acid blockers -> vitamin B12 deficiency
3. Vitamin D deficiency
4. Took antibiotics -> Altered gut flora -> Changes the way peptides and neurotransmitters are produced
5. Love Sushi -> Mercury poisoning
6. Hate fish -> Omega 3 deficiency
7. Love sugar -> Prediabetes

Maybe it helps to post what you've tried and what has or hasn't worked?

I'm feeling the same way. I've noticed I'm even starting to become more depressed when even minor things go wrong. Don't know what to do really. I've tried a bunch of medications too. I've been dealing with depression for almost 20 yrs and I just feel so tired of trying.

I was recommended by my counselor and Psych nurse to exercise, starting small and just increasing what exercise can be incorporated into the day. Of course, in conjunction with the other self-care and self-love.
Thanks for this!

The regular exercise does help battle depression a bit ~ but you have to do it regularly....every day to every other day...really!

I had foot surgery 4 months or so ago, which messed things up for me. I have been trying so hard to push myself back into regular exercise, but it's an emotional & physical struggle.

Getting into looking at life, One Day at a Time really helps too!

My experience as well. When I am very deep in it three weeks with no shower is not uncommon. Getting out of bed to even eat is monumental.

Is depression more a physical than mental condition?

For me it is much more of a physical thing as I experience it. Very low energy levels and lack of motivation are the biggest symptoms. My mental processes are way slowed down and feels like a physical thing. I just want to sleep. I can literally feel how my brain is just not firing right. I don't care about anything or have any interest because I just don't have the mental energy for it. Mood wise I am just numb.

It happens to me when everything is going great and there are no triggers. It is not a matter of starting to think low of myself or getting upset over something or negative thinking getting set up. It just happens out of the blue.

Emotions enter the picture only after I am severely depressed and I feel ashamed because I can't function and I am letting others down. I snap out of it in the same way I went into it. I just snap out of it like a switch gets switched for no apparent reason. Not really anything I can say I did to get me out of it.

It is because of all of that and lots of other reasons that I think for me it is much more a physical thing. So for me I see it as both the causes and the symptoms as very physical. Mental processes are physical.

I am the same way .. meds only work for a short while for me .. very frustrating to say the least.
Then I discovered the vitamin thing .. the B's and D's especially.
Taking them everyday is helping along with the meds prescribed so far anyway .. and its going on 6 months now.
Just thought I'd pass this on to you .. it may help.
Good luck and hang in there.

So if its physical is it important to look at our general wellbeing and self care-diet,appetite, sleep, breathing, level of activity, amount and type of physical exercise we do.

In Buddhism you learn that mind affects body, thought processes, emotions are absorbed in the body. Body tells your mind when you aren't doing well.

Meditation and CBT and other things can change brain structure and chemistry in good ways. It goes both ways.

Have you tried mindfulness, meditation? And calming exercises?

Mine feels physical but considering how much mine is effected by stress it might be more mental. But I am like everyone else, meds usually only work for short periods then it's back in the dark hole. Right now meds are working but in the last three years this the first time.
