I found this term amusing "Treatment Resistant Depression"
Why? Let's see. I've been in treatment for depression for almost 10 years now. I've seen all kinds of therapist, psychiatrist, psychologist and I've taken all kinds of medicines. To be honest, I'm not sure if i really suffer from depression, rather, my life just really sucks. This is how I liken treatment: I go home, pick up a hammer and hit myself in the hand. I then go to the doctor and say "Doctor, my hand hurts." So, he gives me medicine. My hand feels a little better, and then I smash it again with the hammer. I see him again and he ask, "How is your hand?" I say "It really hurts."" So, he gives me a different medicine. It goes on and on and on and on. The solution is obvious, however, often, since life is so complicated and there are so many factors that can affect or mood, it is difficult to just "remove the hammer." |

I agree with your post a million times over, I have said similar things to my family, like if terrible things would stop happening to me and my life wasn't generally miserable, yeah maybe I wouldn't be so depressed. It becomes frustrating and even more depressing when they don't understand and think that what has worked for some relative of mine should work for me.

Thanks for your comment! It's easy for me to stay positive when I'm away from home. I can be happy in many situations. At times when I'm at home, I can't help but feel trapped and at my end. Oh well. It is what life has dealt me.

Me too. It always sounded to me like "Our treatments don't work, but we prefer to blame you."

^ Exactly! I also don't think the powers that be coming up with such terminology can be completely unaware of how the term naturally conflates itself with the concept of "psychological resistance", which is also commonly interpreted as being always the patient's fault.
I think oftentimes what is needed is more good and holistic treating of people, than of focusing solely on the construct of a depression, which doesn't exist in a vacuum.

Depression is NOT a simple disease- and tho it is nice to believe that removing all "difficulties" is the answer; it just isn't that simple.

"Life happens" no matter what your mental status is. Everyone has their problems throughout life. But I think having a mental illlness just makes it more difficult to deal with these issues.
