Hi everyone,

I am 30 years old and have been having problems with my right breast. Actually it's my right nipple. It has been hurting so bad. It feels like someone is stabbing it with a knife or something really sharp.
I do get really tender breasts this time of year due to colder temps, and I have been putting lotion on them. Lotion does not seem to be working however for this problem.
I am scared to talk to my doc. because he/she will just think am crazy or maybe something is truley wrong with it. This is the first time this has happened to me.
I did have a breast reduction when was 19. But things were good after that, so I have no clue what is going on.
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Jen29

I know it's scary, but you need to see a doctor. S/he isn't likely to think you're crazy. It may not be serious at all, but you shouldn't put it off, for fear any condition you may have could get worse.

I have had this problem, but both nipples. It was caused by an elevation of the hormone prolactin. A blood test will determine if this is the cuase, but if it is only on one side I kind of feel funny even bringing this up. however, if it gets you to your doctor, then it will have been the right thing to do. Elevated prolactin is linked to stress, but also other things. Please, tell your doctor.
Godd luck... Miri

I feel sure that your doc will not think you are crazy. Even if he/she does, so what? Get the tests and medical opinion that you need to put your mind at ease - please? I know that the mind and the body are closely connected, but I have never heard of the mind causing a symptom such as this. I feel sure that you will feel better once you have a medical opinion. I had a breast reduction when I was 27...I'm 40 now. I occasionally get the pain you are talking about. It was very frequent right after the surgery, then decreased in frequency over time. The last 5 years or so, it has been maybe once or twice a year I will have a week or so where I get this sensation. One thing you can do is call your surgeon that did the reduction and leave a message regarding this issue. Then the surgeon can decide if you need to be seen or not. If for some reason you can't call the surgeon, you could try your OB/GYN. These doc's have experience with breast issues, and are also surgeons...you could get some feedback that way.

My personal theory is that nerves take a very, very long time to regenerate...some never do. The surgery definitely damages nerves. So I think this pain has something to do with that. This is also why my hysterectomy incision is still numb...7 years later!
