Yes, yet again I am posting about my PMS problems! sorry...

I have a doctor's appointment on Friday to discuss medications for PMS.

This week will be difficult for me because I have many appointments this week that I cannot put off or miss.

When I have PMS I am extremely anxious, paranoid, and angry. And I fixate on things to worry about to the point I make myself ill.

What do I do to cope?

PMS tea, binge eat, take anti-anxiety meds, and isolate myself whenever possible.

I have been told that since I am on Lamictal that being prescribed the birth control patch wouldn't be good since the Lamictal reduces the effectiveness of the birth control patch. I would only be using the birth control patch for PMS.

Honestly two pieces of Dark Chocolate helps calm the nerves during ones period, try eating two pieces per each day of your period until you can have your appointment with your doctor.... some times I eat three - lol.

Doesn't PMS take place during ones period... hence what the chocolate is good for - it replaces some of the hormones that females loose during this time (hormonal levels drop during a womans period).

I agree chocolate is good. PMS refers to the physical and mental changes that happen up to 2 week prior to a woman's period. A woman who has difficult periods doesn't necessarily have PMS and vice a versa. When I had it, I found Evening Primrose Oil capsules help as well as taking enough magnesium and limiting caffeine intake.(help reduce painful breasts). Hope this helps

For me it feels as though my PMS comes about 2 weeks before my period starts and then when my period starts I feel balanced and normal.

Zen I don't know if this will help or if you've heard it before, but B6 together with a multi vitimin and evening primrose oil is really good for PMS .... I'm so sorry you suffer with this, I can sympathise. Take care hon, Kerry xxx

For some people it can start any where from 1-2 weeks before their period.... when mine first started up I use to become moody, emotionally sensitive, depressed and the worst of them suicidal the week prior to my period and like you said the day after I started my period all was good again.

Just look at like this..... were I only got one week out of every month where I ate 2 pieces of dark chocolate - you get two weeks of eating it.... basically you eat the chocolate when you are suffering from symptoms of PMS or PMDD.
Thanks for this!

I have pms a couple days before my cycle also. The only thing that has really helped me is hot tea and honey. My pms has gotten a little bit better with my anitdepressant. I do know that some women take midol, and they say that it helps them. When mine comes for some reason I just get so thursty. I'm constantly drinking water.Sometimes mine gets so bad that I can't stand anyone around me. I tell my bf that I feel like a baloon that needs to pop. Have you tried advil or something like that if you get sore with the pms? I get that way too.

The symptoms that interfer with my quality of life are moderate sadness, extreme anger over small things, anxiety to the point I have to take a full dosage of my anti-anxiety medication in order to leave my home, and paranoia.

On Friday, I have an appointment with my GP and I will ask for medication for PMS.

I cannot prescribe medications for myself even over the counter medications because my regular medications already make me feel sleepy. I had the flu a week ago and couldn't take any over the counter medications for it. My system is very sensitive to new medications and it metabolizes things very slowly. It takes a good 2 hours for my night medications to take effect.

I had to cancel my appointment because I had the flu and my car broke down.

I have a new appointment for this Friday afternoon.

Boy....do I feel out of place here.
I hoped I could contribute with something helpful, but ....daaaaang. From what yall have posted, seems I've never experienced PMS. (Not that I'm complaining, mind you).

I have to keep track of my cycle (by calendar or consciously), because I don't suffer any symptoms to indicate when my cycle starts, ends, or whatever.

Although, now that I'm into my old...er years, I'm 'supposed to" be experiencing "The Change"...Gawd.....Even that ain't happening...lmao. Hmmmm. Maybe I should get self to doc and see why (as I've always understood menopause to begin, for some in mid 30's thru their late 40's?).

Sorry for taking this out of context.....didn't mean to derail this. Just blew me away that, after reading all your responses, I just couldn't relate. (Which, I guess makes my response pretty useless...Other than maybe a bit silly..lol).

I truly hope your feeling better Zen.
