I'm learning that I feel better when I take care of myself 1st, then others. All I do is take care of others, but when I do something for myself in the beginning of the day, I seem to feel better the rest of the day. I have to practice that more.

Good for you. It's very important to take care of yourself before others, otherwise you'll get burned out.

Don't you feel it's so much easier to dish out advice than to actually implement it in your own life? And I tend to feel so much better after I've managed to help someone else, it almost becomes like a "drug" and in the process you forget about yourself totally.
Making real changes in your life can be painful and requires patience and dedication - the main reason I feel we tend to shy away from it. |

When I worked, I use to love the days I'd accidentally wake up too early and would have an extra hour or so to wake slowly, work in my journal, just have quiet thoughtfulness to start my day; it really helped my whole day's mood.
I always try to ground myself when I start getting scattered by stopping and asking myself, "what would you like?" and doing some tiny, fun thing for myself. One of my favorite exercises is when I'm in the grocery store, telling myself, "you can buy anything you want in here, what would you like to buy" and seeking it out (artichoke :-) and looking through the international aisle or bakery or wherever. I've discovered new things I've liked (butter from Ireland) and it's just a fun little adventure in the middle of the day that gives me a great energy boost. I have a good imagination and using it to "entertain" myself has saved me a million times.
