Hello there,
I am new to this site and I think it be great if I could get some opinions even if you haven't had any plastic surgery. I'm 22 years old and I have scheduled breast enlargement surgery for myself next month buy my family seems to be either on the fence or against the idea while my friends are supportive. I love myself but this is something I want for myself and my parents don't seem to get that. They think its too much money to spend and something will go wrong and I won't have enough money to cover it (not even surgery will go wrong but my car will break down or something like that). They love me but they make me feel guilty for wanting this and I feel like I have the money and the time off so to not do it now will be a huge mistake. How can I get my parents and family to see it my way? Or, how can I come to terms with them disagreeing with me? Thank you! |

You are an adult. You are paying for this out of your own earnings. It's none of their business! It would be nice if our families approved of all decisions we make but that's pretty unlikely to happen.

Amazonmom is right. While it's wonderful when we can accept ourselves as we are, I think it's okay, too, to change things you're not happy with. And when we feel we look good, it boosts our confidence.

Thank you for your responses. I know my parents love me no matter what but I think my dad is having troubles with me graduating, moving out, working, being an adult, etc. A boob job just makes his head explode. But I have 3 weeks until theact and it's hard to talk to my parents without feeling really awkward and just kind of depressed after.
It's just nice to get some support until its done then I feel things will go back to more normal than now. ![]() |

Hi there, welcome to PsychCentral (PC).
I would try to think of what your family has to say as you will what I have to say :-) It's just their opinions based on their life experiences. They cannot make you feel guilty if you are wholly comfortable with what it is you want to do. Is there some reason you want to get this done right now, instead of waiting a few years? There is no hurry and there's a lot of life ahead of you probably and this particular decision will alter your history in ways you may not have imagined or understand yet; having/nursing children will be different and the men you meet from now on out, how they feel about your breasts might be important to you but not something you can easily change after this event. I had 34B breasts when I was your age and gained a great deal of weight and much bigger breasts. One's breasts can increase with bearing children too, as well as in the natural course of living one's life. Were I you (but with my life experiences/hindsight), I would wait until I marry and ask my husband to give them to me/pay for them if he wanted them too :-)

I do agree a lot can change since I am so young but this really feels like the best time to do it. I can get the time off now (that's very hard to get in the industry I am in) and I am built exactly like my mother (after 2 kids she is still a 34A) no one in my bloodline has a chest.
My boyfriend whom I plan to marry loves me for who I am and is all for doing whatever makes me happy. I feel waiting a few years won't do much expect I'll be further along in my career and I may not have as much time to take to get it done. I'd rather enjoy my body now than later and I've been talking more to my parents after posting on here. They are very conservative people that don't believe in spending money on things like this but hey, they gotta get over it right? |

Just make sure you find a board-certified plastic surgeon, and beware of doctors offering bargain prices, especially if you're traveling out of country.

Two of my girlfriends have had breast enhancements, one in her early twenties, and one in her early thirties. Both love them and are thrilled with the results. Both are very tasteful and natural and to be honest, I might even be a bit jealous. One of them had a child a few years later and was able to breast feed and had no problems at all.
My best advice is to make sure you research your surgeon and make sure you are being taken care of by the best so you look beautiful when you're done and follow the post-surgery instructions carefully and ENJOY your new body. |

I'd like to get one done someday, but it's not about size, it's about sagging.

I am getting really excited for this operation. My parents aren't happy but it doesn't bother me anymore. I saw the doctor again and he is a great person and his credentials are excellent.
3 more weeks!! Big changes! |

go for it! Self confidence is important and if this will make you feel better about yourself and you can afford it then go for it. Don't let your parents dictate your adult life lol. And if you want it now do it now cause you're only young for a couple years and then it's allllllllll ooooooooooover

!! I don't know if anyone really cares but it's been about 2 weeks since my surgery and while I felt like a t-rex for the first few days (it was extremely hard to move my arms a lot. I couldn't wash my hair until 5 days later) I already feel like no one notices I have implants but rather I just have a full bust! No question this is the best thing I have ever bought I felt pretty before but now I feel like I am totally complete.
To ANYONE that wants implants, a reduction, a lift, a tummy tuck just do it! I have a friend that had a reduction and she couldn't be happier. My only advice is that you take your time, ask whatever questions you have, and spend plenty of time figuring out wht size you want. End result for me is a 32A to a 32D (I'm 5'7'' 120lbs, it's busty but my friends/collegues say if they didn't know me they wouldn't know I had a boob job) |

Thanks for the update! I was curious to hear what happened. I am so happy for you and am very glad you are pleased with the results!
I strongly believe that everyone owns the rights to their own body. If you want to safely modify it with piercings, tattoos, surgery, or even something as simple as a haircut, you should go for it! |
