Hi ladies,
First off, don't let the thread name shock you - I am not pregnant ![]() Mine are... Girls - Kaysen, Leigh, Susanna, Jenny (I'm a big fan of Susanna Kaysen - her memoir "Girl, Interrupted" has had a huge impact on my life and I want to honor that) Boys - Michael, Jacob, Cody. I have a much harder time thinking of boys' names since I've always wanted a girl. One of my biggest wishes is to someday have a healthy baby girl. What do you girls think? Do you have any favorite names for future children or names you never got to use, say if you wanted a boy but had only girls?

I haven't ever really gave girls names a thought. I like Christine and Rebecca.
We were going to name our sons Joshua and Ethan. I am like the name Jaiden. Probably because that is my great-nephew's name and he is something special. At least we think so. ![]()

I had always planned on Josephine Helene for a girl. (I know, it rhymes, OVERLY cutesey!!) I also liked plant names like Ivy or Rose, and I always liked "J" names for a boy, Justin or Jacob in particular.
Babies aren't in my future anymore, so the J names have gone to the dogs! |

When I was your age, I actually started a list that I have had ever since. It is a running list that I add and delete from over the years of the names that I hear that I like or end of not liking for whatever reason. It's been interesting to me to see the changes over time and the ones that have not changed and that stay at the top.

When I was a little taker, one of my friend's sisters had a friend called Everlynn, and ever since then I have decided that's the name for me. I thought it was the most amazing name ever. I don't even tell people I am going to use that name for a girl because I don't want someone else to use it.
And for a boy, I like the name Hunter. I also like the name Mariah and Elizabeth, but I have a real thing for strange names, like Rain, Africa and Winter. Strange I know, I've just always likes things that are unique. |

So did I - started it in probably 8th grade though - by the time I was married (at 19) it was, oh, 10 or 12 pages, single spaced, with spelling variations and middle names all picked out. I guess somewhere along the line I forgot that the child's father would have some say in the naming process!! We ended up with 2 boys, Matthew Walker Lastname and Nathan Wright Lastname. (There's a family tradition on DH's side that boys have middle names that start with W. Period. Whatever). If we'd had a girl her name would have been Meredith Lauren, but that'll never happen now ![]()

This reminds of when my sister and I were growing up discussing baby names. My sister vowed she wouldn't name her children long names like hers but short ones like mine. Her name is Virginia Lynnette and mine is Donna Fay. This is where it gets real funny. She ended up naming her two daughters Courtney Elizabeth and Miranda Michelle. Her daughters prefer Courtney Beth and Randa Dale. (My brother-in-law's middle name is Dale). I thought it was funny has a person's name choices change once they children.
I like to share a couple names I like that I had never had of until friends named their children. Emory Faith and Laikin Gabriel, plus they are precious and the two are first cousins. Emory gave me a hug this week when I really needed one and she doesn't give out hugs freely, so I was surprised. Gotta love two year old red headed girls.

I always said when I was younger that I would never have children because I couldn't stand the screaming and crying. But now that I'm getting older, I am mature enough to see that it's so much more than that. But I don't know if I want to bring a child into this corrupted world of ours. That's the only thing holding me back. And what if it has some rare illness or something like that and there are no doctors that know how to treat it? How could I handle losing a child, a part of myself? I'm sorry if this triggers, I just want to be sure that I want a child before I agree to conceive one. One of my only wishes now is to have a beautiful, healthy baby girl that would love me no matter how imperfect I am. A man may cheat on me or leave me, but my baby will always be by her mama's side

I understand your concern. There are a lot of things to consider. I am proud to say I am a professional aunt and I am very good at it. Plus, I love being a great-aunt. My sister had problems during her pregnancies so we are very thankful for her girls. My husband and I have never taken a vacation without one or both of the girls. We love spoiling children and by God, we are good at it. So, if anyone has any children that need spoiling, send them our way. LOL

As a teacher lots of names conjure up an image in my mind.....eg toby and lewis = naughty, david, noah = good!!!
Terrible huh!!!!??? So, when I had my own child I said he had to have a name that I had never come across as a teacher....... So we called him Turner, my hub's mums maiden name. My hub has it as a middle name too so its meaningful too for his family. |

Girl: Lydia Nicole
Boy: Aiden and if the father's first name sounds good as the kids middle name. If not,I'd change the first name to something that would fit. I noticed my mom's middle name is part of my grandmother's name and my middle name is my mom's first name. Its like: Mary-Ann (I dont know her middle name) :x Elizabeth Ann Nicole Elizabeth I thought I'd make it a tradition ![]() |
