Anyone else get crazy cravings on their period? Seems like every time I'm on my period all I want to do is eat cake and jelly donuts. I remember one time I ate an entire angel food cake by myself in one sitting! Is there some kind of science behind why I eat like a pregnant cow on my period?!

I crave salt. Almost anything salty will work but my preference is popcorn.

I often crave foods - but I sometimes end up staring at the pantry and not being able to determine what the craving is, lol!

This doesn't happen to me personally, at least not that I've noticed, but now I'm curious to see what, if any, food trends dominate that fun n' lovely biological process for me. I'm going to pay closer attention next time 'round.

One of my college roommates experienced similar cravings to yours, salukigirl, and you were out of luck if she spotted you with one of her favorite snack foods. Like a Great White with a baby seal, and it was all over in a matter of seconds, and it wasn't pretty. Thing is, she stayed really thin, no matter what she ate.

From time to time, I'm like sugahorse, though...standing in front of the fridge or cupboard, knowing I want something...but not able to determine just what that something is...
Thanks for this!

That is the only way I know that it is coming!
Pickles, american cheese, ice cream, short bread cookies... none of them stand a chance!

not often do i get cravings, and i really hate coke(cola) with avengence but every few months or so i really really crave coke, i buy a can, drink half, then realise ii really do not like it and throw the rest away! there must be something in it that my body needs, cafine maybe as i don't have tea coffee or chocolate in my diet! I don't know but whatever it is it gets low every few months and coke replenishes it and the craving stops till next time!
I always listen to my body, it will tell me what it needs by craving a food which contains the missing thing! it does take time to become aware of what the missing thing is though but do i really need to know, as long as i give in to the cravings then i will get what my body needs

I do remember reading that when you crave salty foods it really means you are thirsty. So I tried it out and everytime I crave salty foods I just drink a glass of water and very rarely crave salt now.

I did some reading and saw that apparently the hormone changes that happen during our periods cause insulin levels to lower, causing you to crave sweets with a lot of sugar and carbs. I thought that was interesting.
Thanks for this!

I sometimes crave Balsamic Vinegar. Or soya sauce.
I'll also crave something sweet, which is not normal for me, and that craving is satisfied as simply as having one square of chocolate.

Dark chocolate fudge brownies always, I just make sure there is a box on hand every month to make and possibly shortbread and/or Bugles chips, which will get if the need arises. Sweet and salty and is the only time I get cravings for these or anything really.

I get major cravings when my "Monthly bill" Comes around. Mostly Chocolate milk, And something spicey, like hot fries or hot cheetos, and something creamy like Alfredo LOL my cravings go nuts when that time of the month comes around. I wonder why though, it's very strange!
