I am really starting to freak out. I am calling around to see if I can find a gynecologist in the area today. I have never had a period this long before, my period has slowly been lasting anywhere from 7 to 8 days a cycle which already concerns me. I am not having any severe pain and the bleeding isn't heavy, it is a steady light flow. I switched birth controls over a year ago, and have been on birth control for 3 years now. I don't know what this means, and I am terrified it won't stop. Any one have any advice or anything I am really scared.

A number of things could be causing your problem. Get to the doctor. I had the same problem many years ago. Turns out I had polyps that were easily removed and I was fine.

Thank y'all, I have always had problems with my period, I am prone to developing fibrostic cysts and I think that could be what is messing me up. I have tried calling a couple of doctors in the area, two.weren't covered by my insurance and one is closed. Bf's mom said it will probably stop when I take my first pill that has hormones in it but I need to get to a doc soon for a check up and to make sure it isn't anything underlying. (She is an RN).

Can you go see the doc who is prescribing the birth control pills for you? Usually the doc who is prescribing would want to know about things like this. Hope you get an appointment soon.

Typo, sometimes, and often, irregular periods can be indications of changes in hormonal activity. Take for example, menopause. Don't know your age but hormonal changes can occur at any time for any of a number of reasons. It's probably something that's easy to diagnose.

I have the same problem. I think my psych meds can be messing this round too though. Trying to muster the courage to go to a gynae...

I can't see the dr that prescribed the meds until my fall semester of school starts, I use the gynocologist on campus of my university and I can only see her when I am enrolled for classes, but I plan on seeing her when school starts back up. I haven't had luck finding one in the area I would feel okay to go to. There is one I will probably go see when I grauduate but I can't take the time off work to drive an hour for an appointment since I am the only one in my department currently.
I think it has a lot to do with I have been on birth control for so long, I'm 22 so defitnely not menpause but it could have to do with me getting older and being sexually active for over a year now Thank y'all so much for all the advice it has really calmed me down, my period stopped on day 12 |

Sounds like your hormones are out of whack and you might want to change birth control or go to something hormone free.

I don't know your age but your hormones do change as you get older. The pill I was taking when I was 28 is not the same one I am taking at 34. It could just be that simple, but of course you need a doc to make sure! On a side note, when I turned 30 my started to break out like I was a 16 year old boy.
